Daniel “The Haitian Sensation” Edouard (22-2-2, 13 KOs ) gave an excellent account of himself by overpowering durable challenger Dumont Welliver into a round 8 retirement of their scheduled 10 round middleweight bout.
Edouard, ranked WBA #8 middleweight and WBC #14 superwelterweight prior to the bout, was well ahead on the score cards at the time of the stoppage, displayed superior speed and precision to retain his WBA Fedelatin boxing championship.
This showing will certainly improve his standings in the WBA and world rankings.
Edouard went on to say about his performance, “I love Oregon and being able to come out here and display my talent to these amazing fans in such an awesome venue [Spirit Mountain Casino] has been a wonderful and exciting experience.”
Welliver proved to be excellent competition but was damaged considerably throughout the fight receiving blows in nearly every round that wobbled him and buckled his legs. He finished bloodied and battered and this continuous thrashing resulted in his early retirement.
“Roy Jones and Square Ring did an awesome job as usual,” said Edouard. “The atmosphere was more than electric and I even saw quite a few Haitian flags in the audience. That was really cool. The audience’s response in general was breathtaking.
“A lot of offers have been coming but I really like the sound of a fight with WBA middleweight champion Felix Sturm. I’ll travel to Germany if necessary and wouldn’t be opposed to a tune-up bout in Germany as the co-main on a Universum card. Hopefully Square Ring can make that happen. That would be good for the sport.”
