Edward Vazquez Edges Daniel Lugo to Claim Vacant WBC USA Super Featherweight Title
Edward Vazquez finally got his hands on the vacant WBC USA Super Featherweight title, but Daniel Lugo made him work for every second of it in Arlington, Texas.
The scorecards read unanimous, but this was nowhere near a walkover. Lugo had his moments and landed enough clean shots to keep Vazquez honest throughout the ten rounds. Elsewhere on the card, Weljon Mindoro stayed unbeaten, Alan Garcia edged a split decision, and several prospects kept their momentum rolling with impressive wins.
Main Event
Edward Vazquez improved to 20-3-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Lugo, who falls to 28-4-1.
The vacant WBC USA Super Featherweight title was on the line and Vazquez eventually got the nod by scores of 96-94, 96-94 and 98-92. The scores perhaps make it look a little wider than it felt at times, with Lugo having success and forcing Vazquez to stay switched on from start to finish.
Vazquez’s experience ultimately told over ten rounds. Lugo had his moments and never looked out of place, but the cleaner work and consistency came from Vazquez, who leaves Texas with a new belt around his waist after a hard-earned unanimous decision win.
Co-Main Event / Key Fights
Weljon Mindoro remained unbeaten, moving to 17-0-1 after outpointing Elias Espadas (23-9-1) over ten rounds.
The Filipino controlled most of the action and was rewarded with scores of 97-92, 98-91 and 96-93. Espadas brought his usual toughness, but Mindoro looked comfortable handling the step up and continues to move in the right direction.
Alan Garcia improved to 18-1-0 after edging Bryan Jimenez (18-4-0) via split decision.
One judge favoured Jimenez 77-75, but the other two scored it 78-74 for Garcia. A close fight on paper, though Garcia did enough to convince the majority of the judges.

The only unanswered bout on the official results provided was between Carlos Rafael Martinez Juarez and Jesus Antonio Zuniga De La Toba, with no result listed in the supplied BoxRec results pack.
Closing Thoughts
Vazquez got the belt, Mindoro made a statement, and several unbeaten prospects added another win to their records. Lugo leaves with a defeat but certainly enhanced his reputation in a fight that was much tighter than the widest scorecard suggested.
