Baltimore Pro Boxing: Stevenson vs. Dunham Rematch This Saturday

ByBoxing Press 23/07/200923/07/2009

This Saturday, Baltimore’s James “Keep em Sleepin” Stevenson will step into the ring again with an ever so confident Ken Dunham.

Dunham, who came away short handed in their first fight, will enter the squared circle with momentum on his side as his last two victories came via knockout of a previously unbeaten hometown fighter.

Stevenson understands that if he doesn’t take Dunham seriously, he could very well take his first loss as a pro.

“I don’t take anyone lightly”, said Stevenson, who will battle Dunham for the NABC and WBF Americas Welterweight titles.

“I am training extra hard because anything can happen in the ring so I will be fully prepared come Saturday”. The Stevenson-Dunham match up is slated for the eight round main event.

In December 2007, Welterweight prospect Tim “Pit Bull” Coleman, 15-1-1 (4 KO’s), of Baltimore lost his perfect record, battling to a draw with renowned tough guy “Magnificent” Martinus Clay.

Even though the grizzled Clay is regarded as a respectable opponent, Coleman was fuming following the outcome of their first bout. Now under the watchful eye of Ricky Hatton’s assistant trainer Lee Beard, Coleman feels like a whole new fighter.

“Training with Lee put me at a completely different level”, said Coleman, who was also a member of Hatton’s training camp prior to his mega fight with Manny Pacquiao. “I am a far more relaxed fighter now and I’m much better condition due to the different style of training I went through so Clay is definitely in trouble”!

Coleman’s crack at revenge will take place over eight rounds. With a victory, Coleman will not only get redemption but also local bragging rights. Clay, 13-20-4 (5 KO’s) of Philadelphia , PA by way of Wilson , NC , has fought five of his last seven bouts in Maryland and Pennsylvania .

The undercard will be topped by a four round Cruiserweight bout between local favorite Steve “Show Stealer” Wheeler 2-0 (1 KO) of Catonsville , MD and North Carolina ’s Octavius Davis 2-2-1 (1 KO). Former amateur star Daniel Kooij 3-0 (1 KO) of Baltimore will take on Jackson , TN ’s Rodricka Ray 2-2-1 (1 KO) over four at cruiserweight. Originally from the Czech Republic , Kooij has looked sensational thus far as a pro.

Rounding out the pro bouts is Heavyweight Maurice “Freight Train” Byarm 2-0 (2 KO’s) of Washington , DC against Maurice Winslow 3-9-1 (3 KO’s) of Wilson , NC . Byarm has displayed fearsome punching power in both hands, stopping his first two foes impressively. Four amateur bouts featuring top young talent from the area will take place prior to the Byarm-Winslow fight.

Baltimore Pro Boxing will pay respects to former NFL QB Steve McNair with an honorary ten count prior to the Stevenson-Dunham bout and a special 50/50 raffle will take place with all proceeds going to Aaron Bressi, a Baltimore native severely injured after being hit by a drunk driver.

Individual tickets for “Badness in Baltimore ” are priced at $35, $50 and $75. VIP mini-tables are available for $375 to seat 5. Reserved tables to seat 10 are $500. VIP tables of 10 are available at $750 for second row seating and $1,000 for front row. All VIP ticket holders receive free cocktails and Hor’dourves. Tickets can be ordered by calling 410-675-6900 or 410-375-9175.

The Du Burns Arena is located at 1301 S. Elwood Ave in Baltimore . Doors open at 6:30 and the opening bell is at 8 p.m. Baltimore Pro Boxing is the promoter.

Headed by former pugilist Jake Smith, Baltimore Pro Boxing has promoted professional and amateur shows during the last 15 years. Their current stable of fighters includes hot Junior Middleweight prospect James Stevenson, Welterweight contender Tim Coleman, rising Heavyweights Maurice Byarm, Mike Dietrich, surging Super Middleweight Demetrius Davis, Light Heavyweight Henry Mayes and exciting Cruiserweight Steve Wheeler.

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]
