Mark Chamberlain Stuns Pierce O’Leary in Thriller to Claim IBO World Super Lightweight Title

Dublin’s 3Arena saw its fair share of drama, but few expected the main event to unfold quite like this. Mark Chamberlain ripped the IBO World Super Lightweight title away from hometown favourite Pierce O’Leary after a wild ten-round battle packed with knockdowns, momentum swings and a brutal finish. Elsewhere, Royston Barney-Smith kept his unbeaten record intact with a one-sided title win, while Gary Cully, Steven Cairns and Ben Fail all produced eye-catching stoppages.

Main Event

Mark Chamberlain improved to 18-1-1 after stopping Pierce O’Leary, now 19-1-0, by TKO at 1:37 of round ten to capture the IBO World Super Lightweight title.

This one was chaos in the best possible way. Chamberlain sent O’Leary to the canvas in both the second and third rounds and looked well on top early, but the Irishman refused to disappear. He fired back, dropping Chamberlain in the seventh to swing the crowd back into the contest and suddenly it felt like either man could end it.

In the end, Chamberlain found another gear. O’Leary hit the deck again in the tenth, the punishment proved too much and the referee waved it off. It was a huge statement from the Englishman, who walked into Dublin and handed O’Leary the first defeat of his professional career.

Co-Main / Key Fights

Royston Barney-Smith remained unbeaten, moving to 17-0-0 with a dominant unanimous decision over Reece Bellotti (20-8-0). The judges scored it 98-92, 100-90 and 99-91 after ten rounds, earning Barney-Smith the vacant IBO Inter-Continental and WBO European Super Featherweight titles. No surprise result in the end—the younger man controlled the action from start to finish.

Gary Cully bounced back in style, improving to 20-2-0 with a crushing tenth-round knockout of Lee Reeves (16-2-0). Despite losing a point in the fifth for repeatedly spitting out his gumshield, Cully finished emphatically, flooring Reeves twice before the stoppage came 53 seconds into the final round.

Steven Cairns kept his unbeaten run going at 15-0-0 after breaking down Senan Kelly (12-2-0). The referee stepped in at 59 seconds of round five following another sharp display from Cairns.

Other Title Fights

Ben Fail continued his rise by stopping Craig O’Brien in round five. Fail is now 12-0-0 after forcing the stoppage at 2:59, handing O’Brien his fifth professional defeat and making another statement at super welterweight.

Undercard

Sean McComb moved to 22-2-0 after comfortably outpointing Miguel Cesario Antin (20-23-1). McComb won every round on the referee’s 60-54 scorecard over six rounds.

Bobbi Flood improved to 3-0-0 by stopping Tariq Davis (0-3-0) via fourth-round TKO. Davis’ corner threw in the towel at 2:27 of the round.

Adam Olaniyan made quick work of Deepak Pathak, moving to 3-0-0 with a second-round TKO. Pathak was dropped before the fight was halted at 1:03.

Machlan Arthur handled business against Ryan Frost, improving to 2-0-0 with a fourth-round TKO. Frost was knocked down twice before the referee stopped matters at 1:05.

John Joe Carrigan stayed unbeaten at 4-0-0 after stopping Sean Murray in round three. Murray visited the canvas twice before the contest was waved off at 1:31.

Sami Hamed enjoyed a successful professional debut, defeating Bela Istvan Orban by points over four rounds. Hamed scored knockdowns in both the second and fourth rounds before taking a convincing 40-34 verdict.

Closing Thoughts

Everyone expected the main event to be competitive, but few would have predicted that kind of finish. Chamberlain leaves Dublin with the biggest win of his career, while several unbeaten prospects also took another step forward on a busy night at the 3Arena.
