Teremoana Teremoana gets the headline spot against DeAndre Savage in a heavyweight clash that looks unlikely to need much warming up.

Teremoana brings an unbeaten 11-0 record into the fight, while Savage arrives at 11-1. On paper alone, that makes this a useful step for the Australian heavyweight, but the more interesting part is the threat Savage brings with him. Neither man has built his reputation by making life comfortable for the bloke standing opposite him.

In the co-main, Michael Zerafa faces the 26-1 Alejandro Ortiz, while Jack Bowen, Jasmine Parr and several unbeaten prospects feature on a card being shown through DAZN, Fox and Kayo Sports in Australia.

Teremoana has reached 11-0 and now gets Savage in what feels like the sort of fight you want to see at this stage of a heavyweight’s development. The unbeaten record remains intact, the expectations are growing and now somebody is coming in with a record strong enough to make things interesting.

Savage is 11-1 and won’t be arriving simply to give Teremoana another name for the record. That single defeat makes this a different proposition from matching two carefully protected unbeaten heavyweights, too. Savage has already had the zero removed and can concentrate on trying to wreck somebody else’s.

There is also the obvious heavyweight factor. A technical mistake at lightweight might cost you a round; making one against a big heavyweight can end the evening rather more abruptly. Teremoana will be favoured by plenty of people, but this is exactly the type of opponent who can tell us a little more about where he really is.

For Teremoana, victory would move him to 12 fights unbeaten and keep the momentum going. More importantly, it’s another chance to show that the excitement surrounding him isn’t simply built on knocking over opponents he was always expected to beat.

Personally, this is the fight I’d be tuning in for. Zerafa is the established name on the card, but Teremoana against Savage has that heavyweight unpredictability about it. If somebody gets hurt early, the whole thing could become very messy very quickly.

Michael Zerafa vs Alejandro Ortiz

The co-main is a pretty interesting one in its own right. Michael Zerafa enters at 34-5 and faces Alejandro Ortiz, who carries a 26-1 record into their middleweight contest.

Zerafa has considerably more professional rounds and has spent plenty of time in the spotlight, but Ortiz’s record makes him difficult to dismiss as just another opponent. At 34-5, Zerafa is at the point where performances matter. Winning is obviously the priority, but a convincing win over a 26-1 opponent would do considerably more for him than simply ticking over against somebody with a losing record.

Ortiz, meanwhile, gets the chance to take a recognisable scalp. That makes this a useful fight for both men rather than a showcase dressed up as something competitive.

Key Fights

Jack Bowen returns with a 13-1 record against Mielifeier Dalielibieke, who is 10-3, in a super-middleweight contest. Bowen has the stronger record, but Dalielibieke has enough wins behind him to make this worth watching rather than treating it as a foregone conclusion.

Jasmine Parr takes an 8-2 record into her meeting with 9-1 Jemma Peart. There isn’t much separating those records, which immediately makes it one of the better-matched contests away from the two fights at the top of the bill.

Undercard

Unbeaten light-heavyweight Omar El-Abdallah is 5-0 and faces the more experienced Jordan Towns, who comes in at 8-4.

Lekaysha Woodbridge puts her 4-0 start on the line against Sothita Sitthichai. Sitthichai is 13-5, giving Woodbridge an opponent with substantially more professional fights behind her.

Finally, 3-0 super-welterweight Reube Thornberry meets debutant Kai Kurr. There isn’t much form to pick apart there with Kurr making his professional bow, so Thornberry will simply be looking to keep his unbeaten start moving.

Teremoana-Savage is rightly the fight sitting at the top. Zerafa-Ortiz gives the card another strong hook, but the heavyweights are the ones with the chance to make the biggest noise.
