Abass Baraou Beats Giovani Santillan: Full Fight Results

Abass Baraou travelled into Giovani Santillan’s backyard and left with the WBO Inter-Continental super-welterweight title after a majority-decision win over ten rounds. The scorecards showed one judge level, but the other two favoured Baraou clearly enough to give him the vacant belt.

There were stoppages elsewhere on the card too. Hebert Conceicao Sousa scored three knockdowns before finishing Jose de Jesus Adame Chio, while Luis Alberto Lopez needed only three rounds to get rid of Daniel Lugo.

Abass Baraou Beats Giovani Santillan by Majority Decision

Abass Baraou improved to 18-2-0 after outpointing Giovani Santillan, now 35-2-0, by majority decision over ten rounds.

Both fighters weighed 153¾lbs, but it was Baraou who handled the occasion and did enough work to convince two of the three judges. Jack Reiss scored it 95-95, while David Solivan had Baraou ahead 96-94 and Jovany Varela returned a wider 97-93 card.

Winning on the road against a hometown fighter is never something to shrug at. Baraou bounced back from his previous defeat, handled business under pressure and claimed the vacant WBO Inter-Continental super-welterweight title. Santillan remained competitive enough to earn the draw on one card, but Baraou was the deserved winner across the other two.

Dominic Valle Remains Unbeaten

Dominic Valle moved to 14-0-0 by beating Francois Scarboro Jr, now 14-1-0, by unanimous decision over ten rounds.

It was a competitive fight despite two fairly wide cards. Rudy Barragan scored it 96-94, with David Solivan and Jovany Varela both returning scores of 98-92 for Valle. Scarboro lost his unbeaten record, while Valle came through the first ten-round test of his professional career with his own intact.

Hebert Conceicao Sousa Knocks Out Jose de Jesus Adame Chio

Hebert Conceicao Sousa advanced to 12-0-0 with an eighth-round knockout of Jose de Jesus Adame Chio, who fell to 15-1-1.

Sousa dropped Adame Chio twice in the fifth round but could not get him out of there immediately. A third knockdown followed in round eight, ending the contest at 1:46. That was a fairly emphatic way for Sousa to claim the WBO Latino super-middleweight title.

Undercard

Luis Alberto Lopez improved to 33-3-0 after knocking out Daniel Lugo, now 28-5-1, in the third round. Lugo had already been dropped in round two before Lopez finished matters at 1:18 of the following session.

Julian Montalvo moved to 8-0-0 by stopping Anthony Cruz Herrera, now 4-2-0, by fifth-round TKO. The stoppage came at 0:59.

Daniel Morales made short work of Lorenzo Vazquez Avalos, scoring a second-round knockout at 0:59. Morales is now 10-0-0, while Vazquez Avalos drops to 4-2-0 after being put down in the finishing round.

 

Baraou got the win he needed, and he did it away from home. Sousa and Lopez supplied the heavier finishes, but the main event belonged to the travelling former champion.
