Boxing In Britain: Queensberry ABC Amateur Show Results

Five Towns ABC debutant Daniel Allen was the highlight of Queensberry Police ABC’s first show of the new season, at the Jubilee WMC in Trent Vale, Stoke on Trent, England last Thursday.

The 19 year old southpaw was busy throughout his three rounder against Queensberry’s Martin Pickerill, connecting with stinging straight lefts to the head and body throughout.

He also forced a standing eight count in the final round after a barrage of shots, as well as giving Pickerill a bloody nose in the second, scoring a unanimous decision victory.

Allen’s trainer Clinton Campbell said, “He fought really well out there, it can be a nervy experience your first fight at any level, and he has done brilliantly.”

Long Lane’s Ryan Mulcacahy was in excellent form throughout his three rounder against Queensberry’s Nas Rafiq, showing superb movement and well timed shots in scoring a points win.

Impact ABC, who work alongside Scott Lawton’s Impact gym in Fenton, scored two wins on the night with Marcus La Doux and currently unbeaten Matthew Binks scoring decision victories to both reach the Semi Finals of the Staffordshire Novice Championships.

Impact ABC Coach Andrew Sedgemore said, “Marcus has shown excellent movement and good use of the back hand, he was fighting a southpaw which is never easy, but he has dealt with him well. Matthew has shown good energy, and quick hands which can be vital.”

Queensberry’s Joe Ventress and Joshua McClaren were largely in control of their contests against Aldercar’s John Allen and Tom Lowe’s Reece Humphries, both scoring unanimous decisions.
