Isaac Cruz vs Nestor Bravo: Fight Preview and Full Card

Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz tops a busy Premier Boxing Champions card at Pechanga Arena in San Diego on Saturday, September 19, with Nestor Bravo attempting to drag the Mexican into another chapter of the old Mexico-Puerto Rico rivalry.

The show will be streamed live on DAZN and features two WBC interim title fights, an unbeaten mandatory challenger in the chief support and several prospects taking meaningful steps up in opposition. The California State Athletic Commission will oversee the event.

Isaac Cruz vs Nestor Bravo – Main Event

Isaac Cruz (28-3-2) defends his interim WBC super-lightweight title against Nestor Bravo (24-1-0) over 12 rounds.

Cruz is rarely difficult to read. He will come forward, plant his feet and try to turn the fight into the sort of close-range scrap where his hooks and compact bursts do the most damage. Knowing what is coming and actually stopping it are two very different things.

Bravo brings a strong record and has promised to meet Cruz head-on. That should make for good viewing, although standing directly in front of “Pitbull” for too long feels like a dangerous way to prove a point. Bravo may have more success if he can create space, make Cruz reset and resist being pulled into a firefight every time the champion closes the distance.

There is plenty at stake for Cruz beyond retaining the belt. He wants to remain among the leading names at 140 pounds, so an untidy evening against a once-beaten challenger would slow that push. Bravo, meanwhile, has the chance to jump straight into the division’s bigger conversations. He will have to earn every inch of it.

Jesus Alejandro Ramos Jr vs Meiirim Nursultanov

The other major title fight sees Jesus Alejandro Ramos Jr (24-1-0) defend his interim WBC middleweight crown against unbeaten mandatory challenger Meiirim Nursultanov (20-0-0).

Ramos has already spoken about moving towards the leading names at middleweight, but Nursultanov is exactly the sort of opponent who can punish anybody looking beyond the night in front of them. At 20-0-0, the challenger arrives without the baggage of a professional defeat and with a genuine chance to disrupt those plans.

Ramos is the more familiar name to many viewers, but this does not look like a routine defence. Nursultanov has worked his way into the mandatory position and now gets the opportunity he has been waiting for. It might be the most intriguing contest on the card, even if Cruz and Bravo provide the louder main event.

Key Fights

Unbeaten super-middleweight Daniel Blancas (15-0-0) faces the experienced Sergio Jimenez (17-1-1). Blancas has built his record steadily, but Jimenez brings only one defeat in 19 contests and represents a sensible test of whether the prospect is ready to move beyond the development stage.

There is another good-looking super-middleweight pairing as Lazaro Francisco Lorenzana (21-0-0) meets Marcos Vazquez Rodriguez (21-2-1). Lorenzana risks his perfect record against an opponent with plenty of professional rounds behind him. On paper, this is far more useful than simply finding another unbeaten fighter an easy win.

Other Title Fight

Unbeaten middleweight Eumir Felix Marcial (7-0-0) puts his WBC International title on the line against Omar Ulises Huerta (15-1-1).

Marcial’s professional record remains short, but Huerta is not being brought in merely to fill a corner. His 15-1-1 record makes this another important measuring stick for the Filipino, who needs competitive professional rounds as much as eye-catching victories.

Undercard

Heavyweight Valerii Tadtaev (5-0-0) continues his unbeaten start against Juan Silva (3-1-0). Both men are still early in their careers, so this should tell us a little more than their limited records currently do.

At lightweight, unbeaten Robert Guerrero (8-0-0) takes on Shawn Rall (4-7-0), with Guerrero looking to add another win while Rall attempts to upset the prospect’s progress.

The card is completed by a super-lightweight bout between Diego Luna (8-1-1) and Renny Viamonte Mastrapa (4-4-2). Luna has the stronger record, but Mastrapa gets an opportunity to pull himself level after ten professional outings.

Cruz against Bravo should be a bruising finish, while Ramos-Nursultanov offers the more awkward puzzle underneath it. There are decent tests scattered throughout the card too. Worth tuning in before the main event.
