There is plenty to get stuck into when Liam Davies meets Nathaniel Collins at Birmingham’s BP Pulse Live on Saturday 26 September. The featherweight main event brings together two men with one defeat apiece, while a British title fight and a rematch with a personal edge give the undercard a bit of bite.

Main Event: Liam Davies vs Nathaniel Collins

Davies (18-1-0) defends his European featherweight title against Collins (17-1-1). Davies has already won titles at super bantamweight; this is a chance to keep building his run at featherweight against an opponent who knows exactly what a European title fight feels like. Collins came away from two close bouts with Cristobal Lorente with a draw and a split-decision defeat.

That makes this a hard one to dismiss as a routine defence. Collins has been close to the belt Davies holds, and neither man needs reminding how little separates winning from losing at this level. I’d expect the exchanges to be lively, but the more interesting question is who can keep his composure when the other starts having success.

Co-Main and Key Fights

Luke McCormack (5-0-0) faces Kay Prospere (16-2-1) for the vacant British super lightweight title. McCormack is unbeaten but still early in his professional career. Prospere brings considerably more rounds of experience, so this should tell us more about McCormack than another routine step up would.

There is unfinished business at middleweight, too. Gerome Warburton (17-2-2) outpointed Nathan Heaney (19-2-1) in March; now they meet again in what is set to be Heaney’s final professional fight. Heaney gets a chance to settle that score, though Warburton has already shown he can beat him.

Other Title Fights

Bradley Goldsmith (16-1-0) meets Amir Abubaker (11-1-0) at middleweight. Goldsmith’s title is at stake, and with just one defeat on each record, it is another pairing on this card that looks competitive on paper.

Undercard

Unbeaten Nelson Birchall (11-0-0) takes on Lewis Morris (11-4-1) at super featherweight. Morris has the deeper professional record, while Birchall will want to keep his unbeaten start intact.

At super lightweight, Lasha Guruli (4-0-0) meets Hughie Wilson (11-2-0).

Lewis Lawton (3-0-0) faces Cheikh Diop (6-1-0) at super welterweight, while fellow unbeaten prospect Lewis Richardson (2-0-0) meets Ivan Trofimovich (1-3-1) in another super welterweight bout.

Davies and Collins have the top billing, but Heaney’s last fight might be the one that has Birmingham holding its breath.
