Risum Boxing: Poulsen vs. Nzau In Denmark Dec 4

Danish lightweight prospect Kim Poulsen (12-1, 3 KO’s) will headline a show in Aalborg, Denmark on December 4, when he takes on tough Kenyan warrior Athanas Nzau (19-7, 8 KO’s) in a fight scheduled for eight rounds.

22-year-old Poulsen is coming off a second-round blow-out of Tanzanian Obote Ameme in June, and will surely get a much sterner test against Nzau, who holds a victory over Poulsen’s countryman, and former European champion, Spend Abazi.

“I know this is going to be my toughest assignment so far, and it is just the kind of fight I was hoping for. I have to be at my best if I don’t want some scary moments with Nzau, because I have seen him on DVD and he is really a good fighter who has fought some really good opponents and given them serious problems”, says Poulsen.

Manager Henrik Risum has mixed emotions when it comes to Poulsen vs. Nzau, saying: “I used to manage Nzau, and he was with me when he fought Leva Kirakosian and Antonio Jao Bento. Against Kirakosian, who later went on to win the European title, Nzau lost a very close split decision in a fantastic fight that I think he deserved to win.

“His fight with Bento remains to this day the best fight I ever saw live, and proved to me that Nzau is perhaps the fiercest warrior I ever worked with. Believe me, he is going to test Kim like he has never been tested before, and while this is a good fight for Kim and his education as a fighter, a fight that will show us where he is really at right now, it also worries me”.

As for the aspect of one of his current boxers taking on one of his former, Risum elaborates: “I have so much admiration for Nzau as a fighter, and as far as I am concerned there are no hard feelings between us.

“But maybe he gets extra motivation knowing he is fighting my boxer, you never know. I think no matter what it will be a strange feeling for me seeing the two of them in the ring together, but for one night I will be rooting against Nzau. On December 5 I will be one of his biggest fans again!”

The December 4 promotion in Solsidehallen in Aalborg will be promoted by Osaga Promotion, and will, among others, also feature former European welterweight champion Christian Bladt versus an opponent still to be announced.
