Boxing Quotes: Chad Dawson vs. Glen Johnson 2

ByBoxing Press 30/10/2009

Chad Dawson and Glen Johnson, who will battle for the WBC interim light heavyweight title on Nov. 7 in Hartford, Conn., took part in an international teleconference call with members of the media on Thursday.

Dawson (28-0, 17 KOs), from New Haven, Conn., serving his second term as light heavyweight champion, successfully defended the IBF and IBO titles on May 9 in a rematch against former world champion Antonio Tarver, whom he dethroned last October.

Johnson (49-12-2, 33 KOs), from Miami , FL by way of Clarendon , Jamaica , is the former world light heavyweight champion.

In an exciting co-feature, Alfredo Angulo (16-1, 13 KOs), of Mexicali, Mexico, world-rated No. 4 by the WBO and No. 5 by the WBC and WBA, takes on the tough, unbeaten Harry Joe Yorgey (22-0-1, 10 KOs, of Bridgeport, Pa.), world rated No. 4 WBC, No. 5 WBO, in a 12-round fight for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental junior middleweight title.

The spectacular co-feature will be broadcast live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 9:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. PT, from the XL Center and will precede the Chad Dawson-Glen Johnson rematch.

The following quotes are highlights from the call.

Chad Dawson: “Why fight Johnson again? Why not do it again. I can’t get the fight with Bernard Hopkins so he’s the next worthy opponent. The first fight was a great fight and I look forward to the second fight being just as great.

“I want to do a lot of things differently this fight. The first time I got caught up in a lot of slugging and I’m not looking to do that this time. I’m not the type of fighter who goes in there looking for the knockout. I want to go in there and just showcase my talent in front of my hometown. I want to make it an exciting fight and definitely win convincingly.

“I know I won the last fight. I’m done talking about the last fight. I’m just ready to go into this one and win this one more convincingly than the last one. I want to put on a good show. I will fight anybody. Whoever they put in front of me I will fight.

“There’s no pressure on me. People are asking me all the time when am I going to fight next in Connecticut . I just want to put on a good show.”

Glen Johnson: “I did the more convincing job to win the last fight. Chad Dawson moves a lot and just tried to throw punches at my defense. He threw too many ineffective punches and so based on that I believe I won the fight clearly. If the rules have changed then someone needs to tell me so I know how to fight for the judges.

“I’m not going to do much of anything different. It’s the way I fight and I’ve had some success so far with it. I’m just going to go in there and take care of business.

“I don’t have to debate my reputation. My reputation speaks for itself. I have most of my fights on video and if you want to sit in a room and show me where I was being dirty then you can.
