Floyd Schofield vs Lucas Bahdi: unbeaten lightweights fight for vacant WBA title
Two unbeaten lightweights, one vacant world title. Floyd Schofield and Lucas Bahdi headline Saturday’s DAZN card in Chicago, with Ricardo Sandoval’s flyweight title defence adding another big fight to the bill.
Main Event: Floyd Schofield vs Lucas Bahdi
Floyd Schofield (19-0-0) faces Lucas Bahdi (20-0-0) for the vacant WBA lightweight title. Both have a perfect record to protect, but only one leaves with the belt.
The interesting question is whether Bahdi can make Schofield pay when he commits to his attacks. Schofield has the speed and combinations to set the pace; Bahdi will need to find his openings and make them count. It’s a serious step for both men, and the first few rounds could tell us a lot about who’s settled into the occasion.
Co-Main Event and Key Fights
Ricardo Rafael Sandoval (27-2-0) puts his WBC and WBA flyweight titles on the line against Sergio Alfonso Mendoza Cordova (27-1-0). Sandoval was due to face a different opponent, so this is a late change to his plans. Mendoza now gets the chance to turn a big opportunity into a world title win.
Unbeaten super featherweight Jan Paul Rivera-Pizarro (16-0-0) takes on Abraham Perfecto Valdez (14-2-0). Valdez has more professional bouts behind him, while Rivera-Pizarro will be looking to keep that zero intact.
At heavyweight, Tristan Kalkreuth (17-1-0) meets unbeaten Ivan Rosado (12-0-0). It’s a useful test for Rosado against an opponent who already knows what a loss feels like.
Grant Flores (13-0-0) faces Mikey Dahlman (19-2-0) at super welterweight. Dahlman brings the more extensive record; Flores has his unbeaten run on the line.
Undercard
Lightweight Jahmal Harvey (4-0-0) takes on Pedro Castaneda Castro (9-1-1), who has considerably more bouts behind him.
Featherweights Asa Stevens (7-0-1) and Cristian Williams (14-0-0) both arrive without a professional loss.
Naomy Valle (15-1-0) meets Sheyla Moreno Castillo (5-1-1) on the card.
The heavyweight opener matches unbeaten Joshua Edwards (7-0-0) with Craig Lewis (15-9-1), who has far more professional bouts to his name.
Schofield and Bahdi have the headline fight, but Sandoval’s title defence gives the card another bout with plenty at stake. There are unbeaten records to watch throughout the undercard, too.
