Dalton Smith vs Alberto Puello Preview: WBC Title Fight in Sheffield

Dalton Smith’s first defence of the WBC super-lightweight title brings him back to Sheffield, with former champion Alberto Puello standing across the ring. There’s a strong mix of prospects and proven British names behind them too, led by Giorgio Visioli against Maxi Hughes and the Shannon Ryan–Emma Dolan rematch. The card is scheduled for Saturday, October 24 at Utilita Arena and will be shown on DAZN.

Main Event

Dalton Smith (19-0-0) vs Alberto Puello (25-1-0) is for Smith’s WBC super-lightweight world title. The unbeaten Sheffield fighter makes his first defence at home, while Puello returns to the scene as a former champion.

I like this as a first defence for Smith. Puello brings proper championship experience, so the homecoming comes with a real test attached. Smith has earned the spotlight; now he has to show he can hold on to the belt with it all pointed his way.

Co-Main / Key Fights

Undefeated Giorgio Visioli (11-0-0) takes on Maxi Hughes (29-9-2) at lightweight, with the WBC International Silver title at stake. Visioli brings the unbeaten record; Hughes brings the sort of experience that makes this a useful measuring stick for the young fighter.

Other Title Fight

Shannon Ryan (11-1-0) meets Emma Dolan (9-1-0) in a super-flyweight rematch. The British title is at stake, with the BBBofC listing Dolan as champion. There’s already a result between them to add a little bite to this one, and neither comes in with a spotless record.

Undercard

Featherweight Edward Hardy (8-0-0) faces Diego Alberto Ruiz (28-15-1).

Undefeated welterweight Joe Hayden (24-0-0) meets Will Harrison (8-1-2).

Heavyweight Leo Atang (8-0-0) takes on Jonathan Exequiel Vergara (9-4-0).

Middleweights Chris Mulunda (4-0-0) and Harley Collison (3-8-2) are also on the card.

Divine Omojor makes his debut against cruiserweight Goran Kozul (8-12-0).

Smith–Puello has the headline stakes, but Visioli–Hughes and Ryan–Dolan give the Sheffield card some substance beneath it. That’s a solid night of boxing on paper.
