Main Events Boxing: Fireworks Expected On Adamek vs. Estrada Undercard

ByBoxing Press 11/01/2010

Brooklyn’s Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin takes on Ecuador’s Fernando Zuniga in what promises to be an electrifying Super Middleweight semi-final to the highly anticipated matchup between Heavyweights Tomasz Adamek of Jersey City and Jason Estrada of Providence, RI when Main Events’ Brick City Boxing Series returns to Newark’s Prudential Center on Feb. 6th.

The 36-year old Zuniga represents the toughest foe to date for the unbeaten Quillin. Now living in Downey, CA, Zuniga (28-9, 20 KO’s) holds wins over Troy Rowland and Carlos DeLeon, Jr. He won his last two matches, over DeLeon by KO and over Daniel Stanislajevic by decision.

Throughout his career he has fought the best, including ex-champs William Joppy and Charles Brewer, as well as contenders Sam Soliman, Thomas Tate, David Lopez and Ricardo Cortes.

The son of a Cuban father and African-American mother, Quillin (20-0, 15 KO’s) is a fan-friendly fighter who tosses small chocolates into the crowd after his fights. He got his nickname, “Kid Chocolate,” from an observer who told Peter that he looked like the original “Kid Chocolate,” Eligio Sardinias-Montalbo—the legendary Hall of Fame boxer from Cuba.

After a brief amateur career in which he won the Ringside Nationals as a novice in the 156-pound division, Quillin moved on to the pros where he impressed with his devastating KO punch. Ending 14 of his first 17 fights within the first two rounds, the undefeated Quillin has more recently demonstrated that he can also go the limit by scoring 10-round wins over Antwun Echols, Dionisio Miranda and Sam Hill.

In 6-round Super Middleweight action, Philadelphia’s Dennis “The Assassin” Hasson (9-0, 3 KO’s) faces Anthony Pietrantonio (6-3, 5 KO’s) of Youngstown, Ohio. A real-life “Rocky,” Hasson resides on Tusculum Street in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, right across the street from where the fictional Rocky Balboa lived in the movie.

Sidelined for much of 2009 with contractual issues, the 25-year old is now back on track, knocking out Eric Pinaretta at Philadelphia’s Blue Horizon in his last match in November.

In other action, Denis “Momma’s Boy” Douglin of Morgansville, NJ will put his unbeaten (6-0, 3 KO) record on the line in a 6-round Jr. Middleweight bout. Trained by his mother, Douglin has incorporated yoga into his training regimen, which also involves trips all over the states of NJ and NY to seek out the best sparring.

Also appearing on the Feb. 6 show at Newark’s Prudential Center will be Jersey City’s former Golden Gloves and Diamond Glove Champion Patrick “Paddy Boy” Farrell. A graduate of St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, the 4-0, 3 KO’s Cruiserweight most recently sparred with both Tomasz Adamek and Vinny Maddalone to help prepare them for major fights.

In other action, Ismayl Sillakh, (9-0, 8 KO’s) of Ukraine will appear in an 6-round light heavyweight match and Brooklynites Saddam Ali (4-0, 2 KO’s) and Jason Thompson (5-4-1, 4 KO’s) face each other in a four round jr. welterweight slugfest.
The fight is being promoted by Main Events and Ziggy Promotions in association with Classic Entertainment and Sports, Inc.

Tickets for the fight start at $38 and are available through TicketMaster or at Prudential Center Box Office. Group discounts are available. Tickets, priced at $38, $53, $78, $103 and $253 (ringside), can be purchased at Prudential Center Box Office, by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or visiting Prucenter.com.

Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]

  • Where does Usyk go from here? 27/05/2026
For once, I’m totally on board with the WBC. WBC moves to shut down Usyk-Verhoeven rematch talk I personally have NO wish to see a rematch between Rico and Usyk. Call it defensiveness of our sport. Just like I thought Fury’s narrow escape against Ngannou was cringeworthy… I also feel a sense of dread that we came “this close” to having a kickboxer defeat the […]

It could be speculated that at some point Jai could follow t […]
