Boxing Result: Molitor Regains IBF Title In Canada

Last night at Casino Rama in Rama, Canada, local hero Steve Molitor recaptured the IBF super bantam title in a rematch with South Africa’s Takalani Ndlovu.

But in sharp contrast to the first bout between the two in July, 2007, Molitor put on a very cautious performance, careful to do just enough to win but little else.

Ndlovu was the aggressor throughout, pressing the Canadian southpaw but the 32 year old from Johannesburg couldn’t cut off the ring and force Molitor to wage war.

Molitor showed good footwork and handspeed, maintaining distance and landing sharp counters when he did throw punches but was outworked by the visitor, who was simply not accurate enough with his efforts.

After 12 rounds, Molitor swept the scorecards by margins of 117-111, 116-112 and 115-113, improving to 32-1 (12), and winning the vacant IBF title

Ndlovu, who has only lost in world title bouts over the last six years, drops to 30-6 (18).

Coming up next for Molitor could be another South African, Jeffrey Mathebula, who lost a highly controversial split decision to the super bantam’s top man, WBA champ Celestino Caballero, a year ago.

The Canadian heavyweight title changed hands on the undercard during a clash between undefeated Ontario based Eastern Europeans as southpaw Grzegorz Kielsa, 11-1 (5), was dethrone by Neven Pajkic, 12-0 (5).

Pajkic simply outboxed the champion while never letting Kielsa develop a coordinated offense, carrying the cards by scores of 100-90 and 99-91 twice.

The vacant WBA Female super bantam belt was also up for grabs as southpaw Lisa Brown, 17-4-3 (5), came back from a loss in October to outfight Ana Julaton, 6-2 (1), over ten rounds by marks of 100-90, 99-91 and 99-92.
