Ringside Boxing Report: Daniel Sostre vs. Jay Krupp

ByDaxx Kahn 01/04/201001/04/2010

Final Round and Luis Del Valle score big on March 27th card!

Brian Burke’s newly created Final Round Promotions had its inaugural fight card Saturday, March 27th at Poughkeepsie, New York’s Mid Hudson Civic Center.

Among those in attendance at the capacity filled venue were former WBC light welterweight titlist Billy Costello, former light welterweight contender “Irish” Micky Ward, former two division world titlist Tracy Harris Patterson and current welterweight prospect Delvin Rodriguez.

In the co-main event, former amateur sensation and currently undefeated DiBella promoted featherweight hopeful Luis “Orlandito” Del Valle, 9-0 (7), defeated his opponent Jorge Cordero, 4-3 (4), in just under a round.

Del Valle came out and applied massive pressure from the start, putting Cordero on the defensive immediately. When Cordero did produce some offense it resulted in a low blow that had Del Valle grimacing, but after a short amount of time for recovery, Del Valle came back at Cordero with fire in his eyes and lightning in his fists.

Following through his jab, Del Valle would administer four, five and six punch combinations that broke Cordero down to the body and head, dropping his opponent three times and forcing the ref to call the bout.

In the main event, Daniel “The Hudson Valley Kid” Sostre, 11-3 (4), defended his USA New York State Welterweight title against the Kevin Rooney trained boxer Jay Krupp, 14-4 (7).

The bout started out with Sostre looking a bit sluggish as Krupp was the aggressor, chasing the champion around the ring and landing some hard shots to the body.

As the bout continued, Krupp remained the aggressor but became frustrated with Sostre’s slick boxing style that often left Krupp swinging at air.

When the fourth round had begun it became obvious that this was a case of the matador versus the bull. The harder Krupp would go on the offensive, the more relaxed Sostre became, avoiding big shots with effortless movement.

Krupp started to become frustrated, making it easier for the defending title holder to score punches that came and by round six, Krupp’s face was swelling and beet red.

This trend continued throughout the fight. While Krupp always remained dangerous, never lost sight of the prize or became dejected, he was unable to figure out Sostre’s style. Sostre took the unanimous victory decision and moved one step further toward becoming a prospect to look out for in the future.

On the undercard in heavyweight action, former top ranked amateur Kimdo Bethel, 2-0 (2), defeated Ryan Shay, 5-10 (4), RTD 2, Detroy “Big Boy” Jones, 3-0 (2), defeated Rudolf Pierre Luis, 3-5 (0), by UD.

Undefeated super middleweight Lennox Allen, 11-0 (6), defeated Amador Acevedo, 3-7 (3), by UD. Middleweight action featured Valdarin Muriqi, 1-1 (0), defeating Felix Rangel, 0-4 (0), by UD and Brian Pappas, 11-0 (11), defeating Josh Hammock, 9-7 (6), by TKO in the first as Hammock dislocated his shoulder due to a punch.

Finally, in a lightweight bout Luis Rodriguez, 4-3 (1), defeated Luis Quezada, 1-3 (0), by UD.

While this was a local card that featured many up coming or struggling young fighters, every fighter, regardless of their record, came to win and there were no walkover bouts.

It was a successful beginning for a newly formed promotion company that showed smart match making, not for the fighters, but for the fans.

The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings.
