Boxing Preview: Andre Berto vs. Carlos Quintana

Tonight at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL, Andre Berto defends his WBC welterweight title against Carlos Quintana while WBA/IBF super bantam king Celestino Caballero moves up to featherweight to face Daud Cino Yordan for the Interim WBA crown.

Berto, 25-0 (19), is making the fourth defense of the belt he won against Miguel Angel Rodriquez nearly two years ago and after retaining against Steve Forbes, Luis Collazo and Juan Urango.

Southpaw Quintana, 27-2 (21), of Puerto Rico held the WBO welter strap after posting a decision over Paul Williams in 2008, only to lose the title in the first defense as Williams stopped Quintana in one during the rematch.

33 year old Quintana has won two at light middle since that time but had to climb off the canvas to defeat veteran Jesse Feliciano in December.

At just 26 years of age, Berto is in the prime of his career and should have the skills and foot movement to outbox Quintana enroute to a unanimous decision win.

But any lack of focus from the champion after being away from the ring for a year could be a factor as Quintana will make Berto pay for any mistakes.

The undercard will see if Celestino Caballero, 33-2 (23), can make the jump to 126 pounds after largely ruling the super bantam division for the last five years.

The towering Panamanian will meet undefeated Indonesian slugger Daud Cino Yordan, 25-0 (19), who, despite the glittering record, is far less experienced than Caballero.

However, going up a division can be very difficult and Caballero will have to prove he belongs among the top featherweights.
