Despite coming down from heavyweight to challenger WBO cruiserweight champion Marco Huck last night at Weser Ems Halle in Oldenburg last night, Brian Minto was not up to the task of lifting the German hero’s belt.
The American was unable to use his strength advantage due to the superior skills enjoyed by Huck, who was making the third defense of the WBO belt.
It was a one-sided affair from the start as 25 year old Huck had no trouble finding the 35 year old visitor with meaningful shots from both hands and as a result, Minto was canvassed in the third and fifth rounds.
Minto was bravely able to absorb a great deal of punishment from the champion and keep coming but the end came when Pennsylvania man was downed again in the ninth, forcing his corner to call off the contest.
Huck improves to 29-1 (22) while Minto loses his second bout on the bounce to drop to 34-4 (21).
The chief support bout featured former European super middle king Karo Murat, 22-0 (13), retain his WBO Intercontinental light heavy crown with a 117-110, 116-111 and 116-111 unanimous decision over America’s Tommy Karpency, 19-2-1 (12).
