Boxing Result: Cazares Dethrones WBA Champ Nashiro In Japan

Mexico’s Hugo Fidel Cazares painted a masterpiece today in his rematch with Nobuo Nashiro at Prefectural Gymnasium in Osaka, Japan, ripping the WBA super flyweight title from the local hero by unanimous decision.

Nashiro, who had won the WBA crown iust his eighth pro bout in 2006 before losing and then recapturing the title in 2008, was unable to repeat his performance of a year ago when he held Cazares to a draw in the very same venue.

The vastly more experienced Cazares returns to world title ownership two years after losing his WBO light flyweight strap to Ivan Calderon in 2007.

A native of Los Mochis, Mexico, Cazares pulled off the performance of his career to upset iron-chinned local hero Nashiro, outpointing the Osaka man by scores of 117-111, 117-111 and 115-113.

Cazares improves to 31-6-2 (22) while Nashiro drops to 13-2-1 (8).

Winning the WBA belt could pave the way toward a lucrative title unification bout for the 32 year old Cazares, who now finds himself fully in the mix of a talent stacked division.
