Burgos-Grigsby Warms up the MGM Grand.

The first televised bout of the evening was the IBF light flyweight contest between Victor Burgos and Will Grigsby. As this fight materialized, lots began to happen throughout the MGM Grand in Las Vegas as the boxing world anticipated a potentially great night of championship boxing. But in the ring, a spirited effort was being put forth by both men as Burgos and Grigsby chipped away at one another as the rounds elapsed. As unlikely as it seemed, Grigsby was the fighter stealing the rounds with his heavier and sharper punches landing in bunches, particularly his uppercuts and hooks. Meanwhile, Ronald Wright looks relaxed backstage as Felix Trinidad is shown entering the arena earlier in the day. Trinidad looks focused, listening to his I-Pod and speaking with animated gestures to the camera as he makes his way through the arena.

Back in the ring, going into the tenth round, both Grigsby and Burgos have slight facial swellings as they approach the championship rounds. Grigsby still looks the more solid fighter as he bangs away at Burgos, who seems to be hanging on at times on the end of Grigsby’s powerful punches. Then we are shown undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah warming up in his dressing room. Judah goes through a series of punch drills on the pads with his Father Yoel. Judah looks ready to show the world his abilities in his first defense of the undisputed crown.

As the IBF light flyweight championship fight draws to a close, both Burgos and Grigsby close the fight strongly and when we hear the final scores, we realize that we have a new IBF champion in Will Grigsby. Final scores are 117-111, 116-112 and 118-110.
