Golden Boy Boxing: Solo Boxeo Returns To Mexico City Tonight

After a spectacular event in March that saw lightweight contender Vicente Escobedo score another big win, Golden Boy Promotions returns to the Auditorio Plaza La Condesa in Mexico City with an exciting fight card on Friday, June 25 that will be broadcast throughout Latin America on HBO Plus’ “Next Boxing Generation” and on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” in the United States and Puerto Rico.

In the main event, 20-year-old lightweight sensation Pablo Cesar Cano takes on Colombian southpaw Oscar Leon in a 10 round bout for the NABF super lightweight title.

In the eight round co-feature, Mexican prospect Marco Antonio Periban returns to action against Canada’s Jason Naugler in an 8 round light heavyweight fight. Opening the telecast will be battle of Mexico City natives with super lightweight Ivan Cano facing Adrian Quiroz in a 6 round fight.

Unbeaten in 19 pro fights, Tlalnepantla Mexico’s Pablo Cesar Cano (18-0-1, 15 KO’s) is a hard-hitting battler who is the epitome of a Mexican warrior.

Just 20 years old, Cano has been getting better and better each time he steps into the ring and with back-to-back first round knockouts over Tomas Sierra and Marcos Valdez on his ledger, he’s becoming a feared lightweight on the rise.

Looking to pin a “1” on Cano’s loss column on June 25 is crafty 36-year old southpaw Oscar Leon (28-12, 18 KO’s) from Cartagena, Colombia.

Nicknamed “El Artista”, Leon is a former IBA Featherweight World Champion who has been in the ring with the likes of Chris “The Dragon” John, John Michael “Bam Bam” Johnson, Derrick “Smoke” Gainer, Humberto “Zorrita” Soto and Anthony Peterson, making it clear that there’s nothing Cano can throw at him that he hasn’t seen before.

Also in action on June 25 is Mexico City’s own Marco Antonio Periban (7-0, 4 KO’s), a stellar talent whose last three wins have come over undefeated prospects Daniel Comaschi, Richard Vidal and Salomon Rodriguez. He has become not only a fighter to watch, but one who has no problem taking on all comers in the ring.

Friday night Periban takes on the upset-minded Nova Scotia, Canada native Jason Naugler(18-12-1, 11 KO’s), who is looking for a big win in his Mexico debut.

“Next Boxing Generation”, which is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Producciones Deportivas de Ricardo Maldonado Jr. and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, will air live on the HBO Plus service in Latin America beginning at 9:00 pm ET time and on TeleFutura’s “Sólo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast in the United States at 12:00am ET / PT. As the event is a private sponsored function, there will be no tickets for sale to the public.
