European Boxing News: Froch, Abraham, Golovkin, N’Dam, Sturm

Helsinki, Finland, has been mentioned in the past by various sources including MTV3 in Finland as a possible site for the postponed Carl Froch vs Arthur Abraham Super Six tournament fight.

The working date is November 27. I have been told that the date and site is ok with Showtime and Sauerland Event but that Hennessy Sports have yet to accept the venue.

There will either way be a big show in Helsinki sometime in November featuring one or both of the Finnish stars, Amin Asikainen and Robert Helenius.

The WBA will reportedly appoint Gennadyi Golovkin from interim champ to regular champ. Golovkin will be allowed one mandatory defence (possible in November) and will then fight the winner of Hassan N´Dam vs Avantandil Khurtside – this fight have now been “reduced” to interim title status.

Felix Sturm remains “super champ”. When asked, WBA championships committee director Gilberto Jesus Mendoza denied any decision has been made but that a resolution would be announced in a few days.

Equatorial Guinea, a small country, a former Spanish colony on Africa´s West Coast, will be hit by the first professional boxing ever October 11 when lightweights Rudy Encarnacion and Hermin Isava headline a small show with four pro fights. Tundra vs Barcelo promotes the historical event.

European heavyweight champ Aleksander Dimitrenko is now without a challenger after Russian Denis Bakhtov had to withdraw due to urgent surgery. Bahktov had replaced Audley Harrison.

Nathan Cleverly has relinquished the European light heavyweight title to concentrate on a world title shot. It will be former WBA king Gabriel Campillo and French veteran Thierry Karl that fight for the vacant title.
