Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez: Getting Ready For a Well-Deserved Vacation.

BySergio Martinez 02/06/200502/06/2005

“I practiced everything to box in the gym, but as soon as that bell rang, it all went out the door (laughing). When you hear the roar of the people, you just want to get them out of there (laughing).”–Carlos Hernandez on his gutsy performance against Jesus Chavez last weekend.

After fighting a fast-paced, grueling, blood and guts twelve round war against Jesus “El Matador” Chavez this past Saturday night, Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez took some time to speak to this writer from his home in California where he is nursing some bumps and bruises. “I’m leaving on vacation in the next couple of days and I really don’t want to know anything about boxing until I get back. I just need to recover mentally and emotionally more than anything. Physically, I’m doing great right now other than my body just being a little sore. Other than that, I’m very happy that I faced a man like Jesus Chavez because he is truly a warrior. I like him because he is a great person outside of the ring and I would love to face him again and hopefully that will happen.”

SaddoBoxing.com brings you the latest updates other sites will not. Check in with one of boxing’s true warriors, Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez in the wake of his close decision loss to Jesus Chavez.

For those of us that had the privilege to see it, the contest was a tough, close, hard one to score. Most ringside observers and media people were split down the middle as to who was the real winner. Chavez was award a split decision victory, but that fight could have ended as a draw. Hernandez had this to say about the battle, “I thought it was a very close fight. I can’t say that I won, but I can’t say that I lost either. It was a tough fight, and I think the scorecards should have been a little closer, even if I lost, it just should have been closer.”

In regards to judge Max DeLuca’s 117-111 scorecard in favor of Chavez, an absurd call, Hernandez has this theory, “That possibly because the pressure from the Mexican fans. With every shot that Chavez would land, the Mexican fans would shout loud. In the end, it doesn’t really matter as I heard the cheers from the Mexican fans at the end of the fight, which made me happy. It was just a great fight and I congratulate Jesus Chavez for defeating me.”

Prior to this fight, Carlos had told several interviewers that he was not going to get into a war with Jesus Chavez and would box him instead. We now know that did not happen. What is the reason? “I didn’t do what I practiced in the gym and I should have been a bit more “veteran” like and boxed him. I practiced everything to box in the gym, but as soon as that bell rang, it all went out the door (laughing). When you hear the roar of the people, you just want to get them out of there (laughing).”

In closing, “Famoso” had this to say to the fans, “Thanks to all of the great boxing fans and don’t forget about “Famoso” Hernandez because I will be back, and hopefully will become champion of the world again. If not, I will always give the fans great fights.”

Thank you Carlos “Famoso” Hernandez, as you have always given us fans great fights and I am sure that you will continue to amaze us with your heart and determination. And, regarding that thing about you hopefully becoming a champion of the world again, just remember that you are, and forever will be a champion to your native El Salvador, and to many of us who just love to see great fights. Hope to see you soon and enjoy your vacation, because the “Boxing Gods” know that you have earned it.
