Boxing Result: Lazarte Retains IBF Title Via Draw Over Solis

The action last night in Argentina was at Club Unidos in Mar Del Plata, as the IBF light flyweight belt was fought over by reigning champion Luis Alberto Lazarte and former title holder Ulises Solis.

Solis came to town looking to recapture the crown he wore from 2006-2009 but Lazarte, who had well over 50 bouts in his pro career before winning a world title, was dead set on denying the ambitions of Solis.

The bout started slowly with each cautiously studying the other but before long the fur began to fly as each man tried to gain control of the proceedings.

There wasn’t much to separate the pair as neither man had the punching power to pull away although Solis’ greater degree of skill caused problems for the reigning champion.

A frustrated Lazarte resorted to unsportsmanlike tactics, losing points on two occasions, but neither boxer could ever truly control the pace of the contest.

By the time the 12th round was finally over, the cards were presented with tow even at 113-113 and Solis taking the third by the wide margin of 117-109.

This majority draw left Lazarte, now 48-9-2 (18), still champion and Solis, now 32-2-3 (21), still an ex-champion.

Chief support bout saw welterweight Mariano Abel Robledo, 10-3-1 (5), push the far greater experienced Rodolfo Ezequiel Martinez, 39-4-1 (15), hard over 12 rounds only to lose by scores of 118-113, 118-117 and 116-115 for the vacant IBFlatino title.
