Hatton Boxing: Scott Quigg Training At Wild Card Gym

ByBoxing Press 25/01/2011

Scott Quigg has spent £4000 of his own money in order to spend three weeks training at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card gym.

The WBA intercontinental super-bantamweight is currently enjoying his second trip to the Los Angeles gym that also house the world’s top fighter Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan.

Bury’s Quigg, 22, who will return to action in April said: “As far as I am concerned it is money well spent.

“Sparring sessions over there are like war, harder than any fight I’ve had. I have sparring with champions and it has been hard, but these are sacrifices I need to make.

“If I want to get as far as I believe I can go in this sport than no expense will be spared and no stone left unturned. I am acquitting myself well and this trip is doing my confidence the world of good also.”

Quigg is unbeaten in 21 fights and ranked nine in the latest WBA rankings for Retsuri Lee’s world crown.

And if the quiet man continues his sparking form between the ropes he will be on the short list to be crowned Young Boxer of the Year by the Boxing Writers’ Club.

He added: “I am getting to the stage where the opposition is getting harder so this camp in Los Angeles is helping prepare me for that.”
