Boxing Result: Solis Defeats Lazarte In IBF Title Rematch

It took 24 foul filled rounds over the course of two fights at Club Once Unidos in Mar Del Plata, Argentina for Ulises Solis to regain the IBF title but the light flyweight from Guadalajara, Mexico was successful last night in defeating Luis Alberto Lazarte.

Solis had previously been denied the belt last December in one of the most controversial split decisions in recent memory after local man Lazarte had two points taken away for rabbit punching yet still won in a bout in which he was comprehensively outfought.

On this occasion, Solis was better prepared for the onslaught of rabbit punches and low blows from Lazarte and took steps to give the champion less opportunity to do so.

As in the first contest, Lazarte started slowly and did very little as Solis won the early rounds given he was the only one throwing punches. The challenger worked well behind the jab, landing snapping rights and uppercuts.

Lazarte finally started to come to life by the middle rounds in reaction to getting nailed with hard shots as Solis managed to narrow the distance between the two.

The bout took a turn for the worse as Lazarte began rabbit punching during the clinches in earnest, at one point dropping Solis to the floor and the bout was briefly put on hold until the challenger could adequately recover.

Most of Lazarte’s offense came during running lunges that saw him launch body punches that landed just about everywhere between the chest and knees of Solis.

But the champion had to pay on the way in as Solis landed much of his efforts at the onrushing Lazarte.

After Solis was floored again from a obvious rabbit punch late in the fight, Lazarte stepped up his efforts to KO the challenger and landed a few good overhand rights.

After the 12th round, the scores were read and amazingly it was a close bout with Lazarte winning one card 114-113 whole Solis was awarded the remaining two, 116-111 and 115-112.

Solis recaptures the title he held from 2006-2009 and improves to 33-2-3 (21). Lazarte falls to 48-10-2 (18).
