Chavez Jr. a Chip Off the Old Block.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. easily had his way with a decent journeyman on Saturday night’s Mayweather – Gatti undercard in Atlantic City and entertained the audience with a methodical breakdown that brought back images of his famous father in his prime. as he brushed away the Indiana man’s offensive efforts while landing stinging shots, being particularly effective with a heavy left hook to the body. Galvan almost didn’t make it out of the initial frame but his experience saw him through, grabbing hold of the much taller and seemingly larger Chavez Jr. The young son of the Mexican legend showed a bit of the father’s mean streak, at one point throwing a retreating Galvan through the ropes and nearly out of the ring itself.
By the fourth round, Galvan was simply standing with his gloves covering his face and was spared nothing by the youngster from Culiacan. As he rained punishment onto Galvan, 21-7-2 (9), the older man’s corner finally threw in the towel. Chavez had succeeded in doing what Paul Spadafora, Dimitriy Salita and Jorge Paez could not and that is to stop Galvan.
Should the lanky Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., 20-0 (15), continue to improve his skills against what should be an ever increasing level of competition, he may well become a force to be reckoned with in whatever division he finishes growing into.
