Fight fans, Bert Sugar spoke to this writer and give his take on what he thinks is going happen tomorrow night. This is a SaddoBoxing.com exclusive. “I think Hopkins will win the fight. I remember Pat Burns at the press conference saying that Jermain Taylor is prepared and knows everything Hopkins will throw at him. I don’t think there is anyway to know by someone else of what Hopkins will throw at you because he doesn’t even |
know what he is going to do. Hopkins comes at you in so many different ways. He gets inside which is where he does most of his damage. Hopkins does everything in an unorthodox manner. Most fighters use their jabs to get inside. Hopkins uses his right to get inside and throw the right, or he will lead with a body punch. Just ask De La Hoya. When Hopkins is inside, he is the most creative fighter I’ve seen since Saddy Saddler from the forties and fifties. He uses his shoulders, head, not head butt, but the side when coming out of a clinch. He’ll use his elbows. I totally expect for Hopkins to reach over and use a corner stool if he has to. He will do anything to win. He is going to outmaneuver Taylor, who has never seen anything like this because it is so subtle. He will pick him apart and stop him in the eleventh round. Then again, I must tell you I picked Japan in World War II (laughing). Taylor should stick to to his ramrod left. It’s a battering ram. He has to keep Hopkins at the end of that left. Taylor may control the first three to four rounds, but experience will prevail.”
