Mark Krence stepped into a British Heavyweight title fight against the formidable Matt Skelton, replacing Danny Williams at the eleventh hour, and did much better than anyone expected before getting stopped in the seventh round. Krence was able to use his greater skills to good advantage and frustrated the stronger British Champion over much of the contest but could not recover from a long lunging left by Skelton and the action was stopped in the seventh round. It’s the first time in seventeen pro bouts that Skelton, who had no amateur career, was in any real, sustained difficulty and Krence’s performance will no doubt give heart to others and provide the likely blueprint on how to defeat the Bedford Brawler.
