Giovanni Lorenzo Looking For Big Fights In 2012

Former Olympian and middleweight contender Giovanni Lorenzo is on the prowl in the New Year as he looks to the biggest fights in 2012.

“I’m ready for a huge 2012. I’ve fought the best at Middleweight, travelled all over Europe to face them in their hometowns, France, twice to Germany. I’ll go anywhere to fight but would love to fight in New York City.

“I’m 31-1 outside of Europe,” said Lorenzo, best known for his aggressive, fan friendly style. ‘I’m ready to get back to what I do best, knockout my opponents in spectacular fashion.”

This past April 2nd, the 31-year-old Lorenzo, sporting a record of 31-4-0 (23KO’s), traveled to Alpes-Maritimes, France to face hometown favorite Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam for the Interim WBA Middleweight Title.

Despite dominating most of the fight, dropping N’Jikam in the fifth and finishing with a major advantage in CompuBox numbers, Lorenzo came out on the losing end of a highly controversial unanimous decision.

The heavy handed Lorenzo, a native of the Dominican Republic now trains and resides in the Bronx, New York, also showed his willingness to fight anyone, anywhere by traveling to Cologne, Germany in September 2010 to challenge WBA Middleweight Super Champion Felix Strum.

Again Lorenzo was the aggressor for the duration of the fight but after twelve rounds, Sturm was awarded an unpopular twelve round unanimous decision.

Since the N’Jikam bout Lorenzo has stayed busy with two more starts in 2011, both resulting in early knockout victories.

On May 30th, Lorenzo traveled to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic where he stopped Jaison Palomeque in the third round. He followed that with a first round knockout of Jeremy Felton on October 1st in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Among Lorenzo’s numerous televised appearances in the United States was a one-punch highlight reel stoppage of Dionisio Miranda on February 27, 2009 in Newark, New Jersey. The IBF World Middleweight Title Eliminator was broadcast on Showtime.

Prior to the Miranda knockout, Lorenzo was also seen on Showtime on June 21, 2008, battling former world champion Raul Marquez in a very hotly contested twelve round clash in Hollywood, Florida, decided for Marquez by one point on all three judges scorecards. The deciding point was deducted from Lorenzo’s ledger in the 10th round as a result of an accidental head butt.

Lorenzo is now ready for anyone at 160 lbs. “I’ve fought the best in Europe right in their backyards. I want a big fight here in America, my new home, so I can have my fans support me and not have to worry about getting robbed by the European judges. I’m ready for anybody, bring it on!”
