Farrell Confident Of Central Area Title Win

Kieran Farrell insists winning the Central Area light-welterweight title is just the start of a great career.

The undefeated Heywood fighter meets Rotherham’s Jon Baguley for the vacant area crown at Bury’s Castle Leisure Centre, on Friday March 2.

Farrell, 21, promised: “This is the first of many titles. I know I am going to be a world champion.
I read Jake La Motta and he said ‘All you got to do is believe, no matter what you do – believe, believe, believe’.”

Farrell has romped to victory in all 11 professional fights and lost just one round since he started punching for pay in January 2009.

Despite coming through with little difficulty in his contests, Farrell believes he should have remained amateur for longer.

He explained: “I turned professional at 18 years old and shouldn’t have because I wasn’t even man enough to turn professional. I won the Junior ABA title and the junior GB youth championships and went to Bobby Rimmer because I wanted to box professionally. I was a big flyweight and knew I would move up, but never thought I would grow naturally like I have. My first title is at light-welterweight and I am getting in the ring in as good a shape as when I was flyweight. I don’t know what my best weight will be, perhaps lightweight.”

The card is the latest in Hatton TV’s Friday fight night series that is broadcast live on YouTube and draws tens of thousands of fans from around the globe.
