Farrell Lands Central Area Title Shot Against Elfidh

Coldwell Boxing is pleased to announce that new signing Kieran Farrell will fight for the Central Area lightweight title.

The Heywood fighter will return to action in May and then contest his first title fight at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium on June 22nd. His opponent will be Nottinghamshire’s Joe Elfidh, who beat former ABA champion Joe Hughes in his first fight back from a four year absence.

With both fighters unbeaten and a title at stake, promoter Dave Coldwell is expecting a great crossroads fight.

He said: “It’s going to be a cracking fight. Kieran’s served his apprenticeship in boxing and when he signed with me we wanted to get him the title fights. He’s got his first fight with us in Birmingham in May and he’s got to win that or all bets are off. But what I like about Kieran is that he’s an old-school professional. He lives, eats and breathes boxing and I expect him to come through that no problems.

“Joe’s coming off a great win himself and he’s got great attributes as a fighter and with the Central Area title at stake too it should be a great fight for the fans and one they want to see. Kieran’s got a great following in and around Bolton and everyone there will see two fighters who have come to fight.”

Farrell, 21, is delighted at the prospect of competitive bouts and believes Elfidh will bring the best out of him.

“Before I signed with Dave, I saw that he was willing to roll the dice and that’s what I’m like”, said Farrell. “I’ve done my learning in boxing and I’m still unbeaten. I want to face the best and test myself that’s why I’ve just been sparring with Ashley Theophane, the British champion, a division up. Joe has had a lay-off from boxing but came back with a good win and he’s basically in his prime, but my power is underestimated.”

Elfidh’s Manager and promoter – Stefy Bull, is pleased that he’s finally found a good match for his 32-year-old.

“I’m more than over the moon to find Joe a tough fight like this,” he said. “We were chasing Tommy Coyle but his management team didn’t want the fight so when Kieran’s name popped up I didn’t have to think twice.

“We arranged it all quickly with Dave and it should be a good fight because it’s two kids who aren’t afraid to lose their ‘0’ and they know that they can come back from a defeat.

As a former lightweight myself I’ve kept an eye on Kieran and I rate him as a fighter. He’s been on one of Jamie McDonnell’s undercards before and I think it’ll be a hard fight but neither of them have much to lose and credit to them for taking it.”

Farrell will fight on the 11th May at New Bingley Hall, Birmingham in a “tune up fight” against a yet to be named opponent.
