After hearing the allegations, the WBA Directorate decided Richard Abril would remain as Interim Champion.
There were two strong allegations in this case; the first is based on Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios weight irregularities, and the second, based on the result of the fight held in Las Vegas. The result was a Split Decision; however, eleven officials who reviewed it and the Supervisor agreed Abril had been the winner.
Championships Committee proposal to keep Abril as Interim Champion, was supported by the International officials committee, and the vote was unanimous.
WBA Directorate members gathered today at the Marriot Dadeland hotel in Miami, ratified Indonesia as the host country for the 91st Annual Convention.
The 18 Members attending the meeting, endorsed that this year Convention will meet from October 28 through November 3, at the Sultan Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Mr. Alan Kim, General Director of the Pan Asian Boxing Association -PABA-, said that there would be a KO Drug Boxing program during the Convention.
Indonesia Boxing Commissioner, Mr. Anthon Sihombing, efforts are making possible to take this 91st WBA Annual Convention to the Asian country.
