Moore-Walker: British Title Showdown!

David “Kid Dynamite” Walker Set to Challenge British Champion Jamie Moore.

Exciting Londoner David Walker has earned another big opportunity, as he will have a chance to face the imposing British light middleweight champion Jamie Moore on September 3 at the GH Carnall Leisure Centre in Moore’s stomping grounds of Manchester. Walker is without a doubt one of the most thrilling fighters in the UK today but will have his work cut out for him, as Moore, a hard-as-nails southpaw, likes nothing more than the kind of trench warfare that always seems to happen when “Kid Dynamite” laces up the gloves for pay.

Walker, 23-2-1 (11), has come close to the British title before but the two-weight Southern Area belt-holder was stunned by a resurgent Jimmy Vincent in their British welterweight title eliminator in December of 2002. The South London thriller has gone 8-1 since that time with his lone loss being a failed European title bid against Russia’s superb Roman Karmazin who has since gone on to win the IBF 154-pound trophy. Against Karmazin, it was a clear matter of too big a jump up in class but the twenty-nine-year-old “Kid Dynamite” has vowed not to let his sizeable London area fan base down against Moore.

Manchester has been the fight capital of the UK for some time now and Jamie Moore, 21-3 (14), is one of prime exponents of that city’s smashmouth brand of boxing. Since getting knocked out by Scott Dixon four years ago, Moore has been on an absolute tear. The twenty-six-year-old dominated Liverpool’s Michael Jones for the British and Commonwealth belts in 2003, reeled off four straight defenses before suffering a serious injury in the ring and losing the Commonwealth title to African fighter Ossie Duran. A rematch with Jones was next but Moore suffered a disqualification for hitting his nemesis on the break during the third round. In their third go-round, Moore regained the British crown, coming off the canvas twice in the third to knock Jones down three times before forcing a stoppage in the sixth.

For Walker to be successful against Moore he must show more patience and better defense than in the past as the more experienced Mancunian will severely punish any sort of misstep or lapse. Despite the lack of a high knockout percentage in either man’s resume, both fighters can punch very hard and this bout will be explosive for as long as it lasts.
