Exclusive Interview: Prospect Zachary Ochoa
SaddoBoxing: How did you first become involved with boxing?
Zachary Ochoa: “I first became involved in boxing at 10 years old when my dad saw me fighting in the street and decided to take me down to a basement in
the projects and teach me how to box”.
SB: Who has been the biggest influence in your life and on your boxing career?
ZO: “My family has been a big influence on my life and boxing career because they support me. But mainly, I myself have been my own biggest influence because I have alot of goals for myself that I need to make happen”.
SB: How did your experience as an amateur help you with your transition to the pros?
ZO: “My experience as an amateur helped me very much because it gotten me use to big crowds and fighting around screaming people who want you to
win or want you to lose, so when I turned pro I was ready for that because fighting-wise, I always knew I was ready for the pros”.
SB: Tell us about your first professional victory from your pro debut against William Ware?
ZO: “My first professional fight felt really excellent. When I stepped into that ring with no head gear it felt just like home, like I was a gladiator ready to fight to the death. I knew this is what I was made for”.
SB: Were you satisfied with the performance, and do you think you could have done anything better?
ZO: “I was really satisfied with my performance I felt like I did everything right. Especially against a grown man who had pro experience already and a 90 amatuer fight record under his belt. Soon as the bell rang and I moved my body across the ring I knew I had him”.
SB: What type of statement would you like to make in your second professional fight?
ZO: “The statement that I would like to make in my second fight is keep letting people know that I am the best upcoming fighter in the world and have everything and more to become world champion”.
SB: Who were some of your other favorite fighters to watch growing up?
ZO: “Some of my favorite fighters that I’ve watched growing up were: Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones, Floyd Mayweather, James Toney, Bernard Hopkins and many many others that I not only watched but studied”.
SB: What do you consider your best weapon inside the ring?
ZO: “My best weapon inside the ring would be my Intelligence in ring generalship.
SB: Can you describe one of your training weeks?
ZO: “My training week for me is to train hard every single day as if I were getting ready to fight every single person in the world”.
SB: How would you describe your style?
ZO: “I describe my style as a boxer/puncher and unconventional style, because I can box very well but also devastate a person or anything
with my power. But I also say my style is unconventional because I do not fight like the regular person, I have a very tricky techinque”.
SB: What would you consider to be your best punch?
ZO: “I consider my best punch to be my jab. But what I also consider to be my best punch is any punch that I can constantly land on my opponent easily.
SB: What is the toughest part of being a boxer?
ZO: “The toughest part of being a boxer for myself is to not over train, because I love to work hard constantly but sometimes your body needs a
break. That’s something that is tough for me but I have that under complete control”.
SB: What do you do when you are not in training outside of boxing?
ZO: “When I am not in training outside of boxing I love to stay home alone and watching boxing tapes and study them; boxing is my life. But most
of all spending time with my family is great for me”.
SB: Zachary, as a 19 year old professional fighter with only one fight under your belt with a victory where do you see yourself in two years from now or what are your hopes of where you want to be?
ZO: “I see myself in two years from now still undefeated and ready to fight for a world championship title. My hopes are what is going to happen, so what is going to happen is that I am going to be undefeated and recognized as the most dangerously talented hard working fighter in the universe”.
