Olympian Estrada takes on Butler
Aug. 26 at Rhode Island Convention Center

PROVIDENCE (August 18, 2005) – In his first six-round match, 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada (3-0, 1 KO) faces his toughest opponent as a pro, Bahamian heavyweight Jerry “Big Daddy” Butler (3-1, 3 KOs), in the Special Attraction on “CES’ Prime Time Fights,” August 26 at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence.

Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc (CES), in association with Mohegan Sun, presents “CES’ Prime Time Fights.”

“I’m excited to be fighting in my first six rounder,” Estrada said. “I’m in against a big guy with a good record. I really appreciated the huge reception I received in my last fight in Providence and I’m going to get the crowd going again. I’m anxious to make a name in the heavyweight division and hope to be rated next year.”

Estrada, the first boxer to win both the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Challenge three years (2001-2003) in a row, was a Gold Medal winner at the 2003 Pan-American Games. The 24-year-old from Providence takes on a true power puncher in Butler, whose three wins have all come by knockout.

“I’m really happy to give our Olympian – Jason Estrada – the opportunity to fight in his first six-round match,” promoter Jimmy Burchfield added. “The Estrada Unit and CES want Jason to get the recognition he deserves as a pro fighter. Butler is much bigger than Jason. He’s coming from The Bahamas with the reputation as a powerful puncher. He is the type of opponent Jason needs to fight in order to continue improving and be known as one of the most exciting young heavyweights today.”

World Boxing Council USNBC super middleweight champion Joey “KO Kid” Spina (16-0, 11 KOs), of Providence, makes his first title defense against dangerous challenger Anwar Oshana (23-4, 13 KOs) in the 12-round main event. Spina is rated No. 31 by the WBC, No. 8 by the NABC, No. 12 by the NABO, and No. 14 by the NABF. He presently lives and trains in Las Vegas with former world light heavyweight champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad.

Chicago resident Oshana, whose blood-and-guts style has been compared to a modern day Jake LaMotta, is the former Illinois State and IBF Great Lakes Regional super middleweight champion. Three of his four career losses have been to IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy and multiple world title challengers Omar Sheika and Thomas Tate.

Undefeated Providence cruiserweight Matt Godfrey (8-0, 5 KOs), rated No. 13 by the NABF, takes on NABF 11th rated Willie Herring (13-3-3, 2 KOs) for the vacant USNBC cruiserweight championship in the 10-round co-feature.

Former world champion Jaime “Hurricane” Clampitt (15-3-1, 6 KOs) faces Shelby “Girl” Walker (7-4-1, 6 KOs) for the vacant IWBF lightweight crown in their 10-round bout. Walker is a U.S. Army veteran and former kickboxing champion. 1976 U.S. Olympian and gold medallist Howard Davis, Jr. is her chief trainer.

The series will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on CN8, The Comcast Network, Cox Sports and other cable outlets.

CN8, The Comcast Network will air the Aug. 26 show SUNDAY, August 28 9:00-11:00 PM/ET. CN8’s Ed Berliner will provide blow-by-blow commentary for all of the six New England boxing shows. Former five-time world champion Vinny Paz serves as color analyst. The CES package is part of CN8’s Primetime Fights series, a monthly show featuring New England and Mid-Atlantic boxing events broadcast into 7.1 million homes on the East Coast.

Cox Sports will air the broadcast SUNDAY, August 28 8-10 PM/ET.

Manchester’s (CT) featherweight Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard (3-0, 2 KOs), two-time Everlast Under-19 National champion, meets Ricky Alexander (3-0, 2 KOs), of Oklahoma, in an exciting match-up of unbeaten featherweights. Also on the undercard in separate four-round fights are Cranston super featherweight Missy “The Fury” Fiorentino (12-1, 6 KOs), Providence super lightweight “Steamin'” Josh Beeman (3-1-2, 1 K0), and Pawtucket via Puerto Rico super lightweight Eddie Soto (1-0, 1 KO).

Tickets are priced at $152 (Jimmy’s Platinum Club – LIMITED), $102 (Gold Ringside), $52 (reserved ringside), and $30 (general admission/reserved). Group sale discounts, half-priced tickets for children under 10, and VIP sponsor tables are also available. To purchase tickets call CES’ corporate headquarters at 401.724.2253/2254.
