Darchinyan Returns – Don’t Blink.

Fight fans will get the chance to see the twenty-first century flyweight incarnation of Jake Lamotta on Wednesday night, when Australia’s own “Raging Bull” Vic Darchinyan defends his IBF and IBO flyweight titles against Colombian Jair Jiminez at the Entertainment Centre in Sydney. Exactly what Jiminez did to deserve a title shot is unclear.

He has lost his last two professional fights to Gerson Guerrero, most recently in December last year when he was stopped in the sixth round. Darchinyan, on the other hand, has been in excellent form recently. He claimed the IBF title with a scintillating upset win over longtime champion Irene Pacheco last December, and claimed the lightly regarded IBO belt in March this year with an eighth round TKO over Mzukisi Sikali. Entertaining? Maybe. Competitive? No. So do yourself a favour Aussie fight fans, find a pub that’s showing this one, grab a few mates and down a few pints – a far better way to spend your forty dollars.
