WBO King Narvaez Stops Garcia In Buenos Aires

The king of Luna Park was back in action last night as WBO super fly champion Omar Andres Narvaez returned to the famed Argentinian fight venue in Buenos Aires for the first time in over a year to stop Mexican challenger Johnny Garcia.

Little known Garcia came into the contest with a history of winning regional title clashes but was just two bouts removed from a second round destruction at the hands of one of the divisions rising stars and current WBC Silver boss, Carlos Cuadras.

Going against the masterful southpaw Narvaez, with a combined 20 defenses of the WBO super fly and flyweight titles, was going to be a major step up for the 24 year old from Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl.

Garcia, however, came to fight and immediately went to work, pressuring the 37 year old champion from the first bell. But success didn’t always come from the Mexican’s efforts as Narvaez continued to display perhaps one of the games best defenses.

Still, the challenger did get home some shots although by the midway point of the contest was beginning to tire. This is what Narvaez had been waiting for as the Cordoba legend went to work, mounting an offense that decked Garcia in the seventh.

Garcia didn’t show up to just lay down and beat the count amid the roaring support shown Narvaez by the Luna park faithful. The challenger resumed looking for holes in the defense of Narvaez but was largely unsuccessful, getting outboxed by the WBO king.

By the 11th frame, Garcia was in deep trouble, going down on three occasions, and was not to beat the count after the last one as Narvaez won by KO.

Narvez now goes to 37-1-2 (20) and now has two victories under his belt after a last years unsuccessful attempt to go up in weight against Nonito Donaire, while Garcia falls to 16-4-1 (8).
