Dave Coldwell Looks Back At 2012 Boxing Season

ByBoxing Press 01/01/2013

2012 has been a remarkable year for Coldwell Boxing as we have delivered a vast number of high-quality events. In the last twelve months, Coldwell Boxing have taken massive strides both in and out of the ring and we feel it is necessary to provide a series of awards to a collection of gutsy entertainers who put everything on the line to ensure that supporters of Coldwell Boxing were given value for money and some memorable action.

Coldwell Boxing Fight of the Year: Anthony Crolla WPTS10 Kieran Farrell, December 7th, Manchester Bowlers

“This award sparked plenty of debate as it could have gone to a number of fights that took place on Coldwell Boxing shows this year. This was our first outing on our brand new Coldwell Boxing television app and both Anthony and Kieran went out there and delivered far more than anyone expected. Everything from the action to the atmosphere was nothing short of world class and it was an occasion that anyone who witnessed it will never forget.”

Coldwell Boxing Fighter of the Year: Curtis Woodhouse

“Like all the awards, this was difficult to select as a number of boxers have worked wonders this year but none have had quite a journey like Curtis Woodhouse. Everyone is aware of his football background but this year he has shown everyone he’s a serious domestic contender as he claimed the English 10st title against Dave Ryan.

“This result was even more impressive considering that Curtis was defeated by Dale Miles in a sensational battle only months earlier. The Lonsdale belt is firmly on Curtis’ radar now and I’m hoping that we can achieve that in the New Year.”

Coldwell Boxing Undercard Fight of the Year. Nav Mansouri WTKO6 Nathan Graham, June 8th, Magna Centre, Rotherham

“This fight was a real gut check for Nav and I firmly believe that he’s a far better fighter for coming through what was such a massive test in such an early stage of his career. Both fighters had their moments in this one but after a few rounds, I sensed that Nav was getting on top. I can remember looking at the crowd once it was all over and every single person in the venue was on their feet going wild for what really was a brutal encounter.”

Coldwell Boxing Prospect of the Year. Liam Conroy

“Even though Liam ended the year losing his undefeated record, I’m still certain that he’ll go on and have a successful career. I’ve watched his fight with Gilson De Jesus countless times and it’s a fight that Liam wins but the referee thought otherwise and that’s how it goes sometimes.

“Liam’s a strong character and he was very impressive in his first two fights and I’m still adamant that he’ll have a very successful career despite the controversial defeat to De Jesus. I’m not here to inflate fighters’ egos or pad their records; I want to give my guys hard tests and make them much better boxers in the process. Liam will have learnt so much from his defeat and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in the ring shortly.”

Coldwell Boxing’s One to watch in 2013: Liam Hanrahan

“There were a number of fighters who could have walked away with this gong but after watching him dismantle the usually tough, Delroy Spencer, in December, I couldn’t hide my excitement. Liam has a fan-friendly style but he also has a boxing brain to go with it so he’s able to get smart if things aren’t going to plan.

“He’s a popular kid in Greater Manchester and he’ll be featuring on all of our Northwest shows in 2013 as he continues his ring education. If we can keep him busy then we’ll definitely be looking at some sort of title in the late stages of 2013.”
