Matthysse Sparks Dallas, Soto Karass Decisions Aydin

Lucas Matthysse was expected to win against Mike Dallas Jr., but last night the Argentine slugger proved that to be a dramatic understatement.

Matthysse was complaining pre-fight that a flaw inside his game was starting too late in the fight, but his swarming approach that eventually flattened Dallas Jr shut out that thought.

Dallas Jr actually came out much too aggressive to start the fight, apprehending Matthysse with little fear of the WBC Interim champion’s staggering power.

“The Silent Assassin” quickly paid for his lack of consideration as he slipped straight into a flush Matthysse right hand, which left him flat on his face for almost a minute. This may be an extremely early knockout of the year candidate.

Post-fight Matthysse made note of the fact that while he’d act on a purposed WBC mandatory title fight against Danny “Swift” Garcia, he is willing to face any opponent put in front of him by his promoter Golden Boy Promotions.

In the chief supporting bout of the evening, Jesus Soto Karass peppered his way to victory over ten rounds against Turkish puncher Selcuk Aydin.

Aydin threw some hammering overhand rights but only managed to plant a few per round. Karass was the more mentally determined fighter, landing in bunches. Some punches only glanced but the Mexican managed to force Aydin into the corner regularly. In the end, Karass snatched a well deserved majority decision verdict in a mild upset.

Opening up the Showtime-televised bill, Jermell Charlo scattered local contender Harry Joe Yorgey, quickly slashing him to the mat twice in round two with blinding hand speed.

But the 35 year old veteran showed resilience, fighting back when possible until he simply couldn’t handle it anymore and was stopped in round eight of the 10 rounder.

Also on the deeper undercard, noteworthy prospects Francisco Vargas, Julian Williams, and Errol Spence Jr harvested stoppage victories.
