Irish Amateur Boxing Open Cadet Semi-Finals In Dublin Today

The Open Cadet semi-finals are scheduled for Dublin’s National Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The finals will be held Sunday.

The Irish Amateur Boxing Association are using the Open as part of their selection process for the European Junior Championships in Russia in June.

The 2013 Girls Championships is open to boxers that have at least competed in their Provincial Championships. Note the venue change for Munster weigh-in.

Meantime, Irish boxing will have a keen interest in the outcome of the WSB semi-finals in Kazakhstan and the Ukraine this weekend. Conrad Cummings’ Mexico Guerreros travel to Kazakhstan to meet Eric Donovan’s Astana Arlans trailing 3-2 from the first leg in Mexico City, while Willie McLaughlin’s Italia Thunder, the defending champions, hold a 4-1 advantage ahead of their clash with the Ukraine Otamans in Kiev.

The Otamans have named two-time Olympic and AIBA World champion Vasyl Lomachenko in a formidable looking side as they seek to overturn the 4—1 deficit and bid arrivederci to the Azzurri. Lomachenko is in against 2009 AIBA World champion Domenico Valentino of Italy.
