Matchroom Promotions put on a riveting night of entertainment yesterday at London’s historic York Hall, headlined by Junior Witter’s British, Commonwealth and European Light Welter title defense against the surging IBO titlist, Colin Lynes. On the undercard there were two particularly smashing performances by a quartet of London based fighters, which we will cover on a round by round basis in this exclusive ringside report, only on www.saddoboxing.com.

London lightweights Dave Stewart and Judex Meemea led off the evening’s events. Stewart appeared as the more accomplished fighter and is bossing Meemea from the off. Meemea turns things around toward the end of the first but receives a cut above his right eye. Maybe from a head clash?

In the second frame Meemea has upped his work rate for the first half of the round but begins to tire already. Stewart senses this and is all over his rival, catching him flush with two good left hooks to the head before two huge right handers follow. Stewart is looking the stronger man and blood is pouring from Meemea’s gaping mouth.

The third is a much quieter round for both with Stewart landing only one telling punch, as he sends the now cautious Meemea reeling back with a stiff jab. Stewart comes out strong for the fourth and lands a good left hook to the head followed by a nicely doubled up jab as Meemea grabs him, the blood flowing from his mouth and eye again. Stewart shrugs him off and goes in for the kill, looking busier and landing a good right cross – left hook combo.

In the fifth, Stewart appears cut above the right eye during a very quiet round for both men and Meemea surprisingly finishes the session as the stronger man. The trend continues in the sixth as a thumping right hand from Meemea sends Stewart reeling back to the ropes. Meemea is the one bossing now and fires in two solid rights into Stewart. Both fighters look tired as the final bell sounds.

Stewart wins it on the referee’s scorecard 60-55 and the six footer improves to 15-0 (7) while Mauritius native Meemea drops to 3-4-3 (0.

In contest between London based light welters, Dangerous Ted Bami meets Silence Saheed for a scheduled six rounder.

To say these two fighters came to inflict damage is an understatement as the first round features each flying at each other in brutal style. The crowd and the atmosphere heats up as a result of the efforts put forth by the combatants. Bami dishes out some fierce body shots then lands an absolute belter of a left cross, followed by a good right uppercut. Saheed reels back looking stunned before tearing into Bami with devastating combinations, which he sustains for the rest of the round. It’s a cracking start as both fighters are simply going for it and the Bethnal Green crowd roars in appreciation.

The second starts with a good uppercut by Bami, which throws Saheed back but he returns straight away to Bami like a man possessed. Saheed is quick, strong and all over Bami for the rest of the round. Both fighters are really up for this one.

Unbelievably, round three sees the pace quicken and the crowd loves it. Two good left hooks fire in from Bami, then an uppercut that shakes Saheed to his boots. What looks to be a possible knockdown is ruled a slip by the referee. Again, Saheed comes back at Bami and nails him with a good right cross.

At the start of round four, Bami sends out a thumping right hand and Saheed flies over and is down. Saheed is up sharpish and comes straight back again at Bami but is looking tired towards the end of the round. Bami is looking the stronger fighter now.

Both men seem tired in the fifth but somehow pull out a thirty second toe to toe exchange that has the East End crowd roaring again. The York Hall audience smells blood now and wants more of the same.

It’s the sixth and final round of this brutal tear-up and both men look wasted from their efforts.
Wallop! They go at it AGAIN! Bami is digging deep now and bashes Saheed with a cracking uppercut followed by two good left hooks and a thumping right cross that has Saheed stunned but somehow he stays upright as the bell sounds!

A fantastic tear-up and for action, it was easily fight of the night. Bami wins on the referee’s card 58 – 55.

Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]
