Boxing Showdown: Jeff Lacy – Scott Pemberton

Two Brawlers, One Ring And A Collision Headed for Stateline, Nevada

In the sport of boxing, fans and writers alike anticipate fights that will have us on the edge of our seats. We savor scheduled bouts that will have us looking forward to fight night. We keep an eye out for those ever elusive world championship title fights that keep us all guessing whether or not we will see a new divisional ruler at the end of the day. Personally, I believe that the scheduled November 5th matchup between IBF/IBO Super Middleweight

Champion Jeff Lacy and rugged contender Scott Pemberton has all the makings of a tremendous, action packed fight.

Let’s weigh the issues. Here we have Jeff Lacy, strong, physically imposing and with power in both fists. He’s blessed with one punch knockout power and, although his alias is “Left Hook”, he possesses an ever developing arsenal that includes a neck popping jab, thunderous overhand right and an uppercut that will knock an opponent’s head clean off his shoulders. Then there’s the very durable veteran, Scott Pemberton. At 6 foot 2, he brings to the table not only a four inch height advantage but Pemberton has an 80 inch reach versus the 74 inch reach of Lacy. The New Englander has a tremendous chin and has proven that he can take a punch. With his orthodox style of fighting, Pemberton has a lethal right hand which he uses in a variety of ways and is very dangerous even when he appears to be heading down for the count.

The age old adage “Styles Make Fights” comes to mind when considering this contest, what surely should turn out to be a great fight! One interesting aspect of this bout is that this will be Scott Pemberton’s first title fight in his twelve years as a pro. He has long awaited the opportunity to contest for a title and Pemberton feels that many fighters in his weight class have eluded him, holding him back from his dream of becoming a world champion. This trend has also plagued Jeff Lacy. He was to attempt to unify the titles this month against WBO Champion Joe Calzaghe, but due to the Welshman breaking a hand the fight has been put on hold.

Nonetheless, we are in for a real treat when these two hungry fighters duke it out, as one will try to take the prize and the other will try to keep it. This should make for an exciting and
intriguing night of action.
