Jaime “The Hurricane” Clampitt was looking forward to finishing off 2005 in a big way, with a win over undefeated Gisselle “Magic” Salandy on Wednesday, November 23rd. Her desire to defend her IWBF world lightweight title, however, was overshadowed by a hand injury suffered last Thursday evening in sparring. The extent of the injury will not fully be known until this weekend when the results of

the MRI & Bone Scan have come back.

“My hand started to hurt in the 2nd round,” said Clampitt. “But I really wanted to get the rounds in so I just began sticking to using my left hand, but my right hand hurt real bad. When we were done and my gloves came off my hand was really swollen. Luckily CES has one of the best hand doctors in the world in Dr. Steven Margles of the Lahey Clinic. He was able to squeeze me in on Friday and he made the decision. As a fighter I would have fought regardless, but Dr. Margles made sure to call my promoter Jimmy Burchfield and let him know that I cannot.”

According to Dr. Margles, he had actually recommended that Clampitt not fight in the first place. Prior to her title winning effort against Shelby Walker, Clampitt had suffered an injury to her left wrist. Afraid that bout may have been cancelled, Jaime fought through the pain and had it examined following the bout. Dr. Margles determined that the left wrist seemed as though it may need surgery and the tests for the wrist were previously set for November 16th, however in light of the new injury, both hands were tested.

“I know medically speaking it may not have been the best move, but I am a fighter and I want to fight,” said Clampitt. “If the tests on my wrists had come back very bad than I would be out for more than half a year, so I wanted to get one more fight in, regardless of the pain. But the right hand is not an injury I could fight through, I mean making a fist right now is not even possible.”

“Jaime is a true champion and a true warrior,” said promoter Jimmy Burchfield. “I know that if Dr. Margles had not called me direct, Jaime probably would have tried to fight still. But as much as it hurts to take her off the card, there is really no alternative. All we can hope for is a speedy recovery and I promised Jaime that as soon as the hand is better she will be defending her belt and hopefully adding more titles to her resume. For now, I am counting on her to help CES with the promotion as she is one of our ambassadors and one of our most popular fighters.”

While she will not be able to fight, Jaime is hoping that her fans will come out and support the rest of the CES team. Hand willing, she will be on hand signing autographs and taking pictures.

“I will be there ringside cheering on my team and I hope everyone else comes out to as it surely will be a tremendous night of boxing,” said Clampitt.

The November 23rd event will take place at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Downtown Providence. The doors for the event will open at 6 PM with the first bout beginning at 7 PM. The event will feature 7 world class matchups including a female world championship fight between Missy Fiorentino (12-1) & Esther Schouten (18-2-1), along with appearances by 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada (4-1, 1 KO), WBC U.S. Cruiserweight Champion Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey (9-0, 5 KO’s), 2000 Olympic Trials Gold Medallist “Steamin” Josh Beeman (3-1-2, 1 KO), Exciting Puerto Rican Prospect Eddie Soto (2-0, 1 KO) and newly added Matt “Sharp Shooter” Remillard (6-0, 5 KO’s). Tickets, on sale now, are priced at $30, $52, $102 and a limited amount of $152 VIP seats. They are available by calling CES at 401-724-2253 or logging on to their web site at www.cesboxing.com.

In addition, the event will be televised on a taped delay basis on both CN8, The Comcast Network, which reaches more than 7 million homes from Maine to Virginia, and Cox Sports Television in Rhode Island. CN8 will be broadcasting the event on Saturday, November 26 at 7:00 PM/EST and Cox will present the event on Friday, November 25 at 8:00 PM/EST. The CN8 commentating team is made up of Ed Berliner, five-time world champion Vinny Paz and Phil Burton.
