Regulation of Boxing in Non Commissioned States and Tribal Land Absent A commission

The ABC has hit a roadblock in its attempt to secure insurance to cover the association in the event of civil liability for the regulation of boxing events in a non-commissioned states or tribal land absent a boxing commission.

Last week we were advised by two insurance companies that the ABC had been working with that they were unable to secure an insurance company that was willing to write the necessary insurance to cover the ABC, therefore, the ABC will continue with its resolution passed at the annual meeting in July of 2005. The ABC will not regulate any boxing events in non-commissioned states or tribal land absent a boxing commission.

I would encourage boxers, boxing officials and any one general interested in boxing in those non-commissioned states to contact their local senators and representative and encourage the creation of boxing commissions in those states. Tribe may for their own commission by passing a tribal resolution creating a boxing commission and adopting rules that are as stringent as the boxing rules in the state where the tribal reservation is located or adopting the ABC regulatory guidelines.

The ABC and its members are willing to provide any information necessary to assist in forming new commissions. It is unfortunate that promoters in at least three states who had been planning events will now have to be postponed. I do not see the ABC securing this type of insurance in the future.
