Boxing News: Mora Talent Heading Into Jr. Welterweight Division!

ByBoxing Press 01/01/2006

“Brawlroom Boxing” makes its return to the Denver area and its thirsty fight fans on Tuesday, January 17, 2006. Following a highly successful inaugural show back in September 2005; Tuesday Night Fights, LLC is anxious to bring another high-octane card to the Denver area.

The classy and historic Sherman Street Event Center will once again play host to “Brawlroom Boxing” and the card will be taped and televised at a later date by HDNet, with Heavyweight contender DaVarryl “Touch of Sleep” Williamson providing the color commentary. Doors will open at 6pm with the first bell at 7pm (MST). Headlining the card will be a rare “double main event” featuring Jr. Welterweight terrors Adrian & Anthony Mora, both in 10 round fights.

Anthony “The Matrix” Mora (14-0, 10) will face Roberto Valenzuela (34-18-1, 30) in something of a grudge match. Valenzuela is a familiar face to Denver fight fans, as he faced Adrian on the September 20th card. In a hard fought bout, one in which featured a lot of back and forth, Mora took home a unanimous decision win, but Valenzuela certainly won over some fans and is eager to extract some revenge on older brother, Anthony. Anthony is no slouch though, a 4th place finisher in the 2000 USA National tournament and a 2nd place finisher in the 2000 National Golden Gloves tournament, is up to the task. After injuries slowed him in 2004, he returned with two wins in ’05, but wants to start 2006 off with a big step up win. “This is the year that my brother and I emerge as contenders on the jr. welterweight landscape!, I want people to know that my talent matches my hype!”.

Adrian Mora (14-0-1, 7) will square off vs. Shawn “Sabre” Simmons (26-15-1) of Kentucky. Adrian is quickly establishing himself as a legitimate prospect and fringe contender only 15 fights into his career. Already ranked by the WBC, NABF, NABA & USBA, Adrian is looking to make a significant move in 2006. “It’s just a matter of time before I position myself in the ratings so that some of these other prospects have to face me to move on. It’s frustrating because everyone wants to be tagged a “prospect’, but no one wants to take a risk. One more fight, and I’ll be ready, willing and able to take on any of the prospects in the division, anywhere they want to make the fight.” Simmons, a savvy veteran of 42 pro fights has been in with some of the division’s better prospects, including Lakva Sim, Angel Manfredy & Billy Irwin and should provide another stern test for Mora.

Jose “El Asesino Caro Niño” Morales (1-0) will step in against Manny Sanchez (2-1) in a scheduled 5-rounder. Morales debuted in front of a packed Sherman Street Event Center and made an immediate impression with talent, technique and sheer volume; some fans thought he may have stolen the show. Sanchez suffered a broken jaw last time out, but has fully recovered and is anxious to get in the ring. This one will be a classic Mexican war; meet in the center of the ring, throw down and see who comes out on top.

Also on the card will be lightweight, Hector “Chin Checka” Saez (7-3) and jr. welterweight Marvin Cordova (7-0) with opponents to be determined.

Tickets, affordably priced are available @ www.tnfboxing.com or by calling 303.623.7875 and 720.434.4515.
