In a four bout event Friday night at Cicero Stadium promoted by Windy City KO, cruiserweight Aaron Williams stood out as the most complete fighter of the night. The fluid and lean lefty knocked out veteran James Johnson with a right uppercut to the gut at 2:35 of the second round. Johnson had oxygen administered to him and

took several minutes to get off the canvas. Williams looked like he had been utilizing a nice left hook and decent, if not overpowering, jab and will definitely benefit from the training of veteran cornerman Jesse Reid. Johnson was tentative, at best, and had difficulty reaching Williams throughout the short fight. Williams, of Las Vegas, NV, improves to 6-0-1 (5) while Johnson, of Shreveport, LA, loses for the eighth time in nine contests to drop to 19-21-2 (11).

Friday night also marked the pro debut of Chicagoan Ninos Abraham, a three time Golden Glove Winner and Junior Olympic Champion. The welterweight was hyped up by the crowd, who were the most raucous throughout his four round fight. His opponent, the durable and tough-as-nails Fred Thomas cut Abraham with his head in the first, but had his nose battered by a series of jabs

in the third. Abraham was wild and seemed to be more concerned with trying to knock out the steady Thomas with hook after hook in the first three rounds. Finally, the best action of the night came in the fourth round. Abraham went to his powerful jab while Thomas responded with a flurry of right hooks to the side of Abraham’s face. The fourth turned into a bloodbath, with Thomas throwing the majority of his punches in the opening two minutes of the round. The judges justifiably and unanimously awarded Abraham the bout, which went the full four rounds, 40-36. If Abraham, now 1-0 (0), can control his emotions and not be overly swayed by his hometown crowd, it appears he has a bright future ahead of him as a pro. Thomas, of Davenport, IA, falls to 0-1-2 (0).

The main event, a battle of two veteran junior middleweights, Germain Sanders versus knock-kneed Anthony Bowman went the entire eight rounds, much to the chagrin of the surprisingly large crowd. The finale was dominated by the Chicagoan Sanders, whose decent jab and agility enabled him to outlast and outduck the overwhelmed Bowman. Sanders,

now 26-3 (17), fought this bout like he was working out, and seemed pretty disinterested throughout his unanimous 82-72 victory. Bowman, of Jackson, TN, drops his sixth in a row and now stands at 7-19-2 (2).

Hamilton, Ontario’s Christina Christian ran her record to 3-0 (3) as she knocked out the bewildered and uninspired Jeanine Tracy at 1:59 of the first round. Tracy, of Chicago, is stopped for the seventh straight bout and falls to 3-10 (3).

Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]
