Boxing Info: Russian Invasion

ByBoxing Press 26/01/2006

Today Gatwick Airport saw the biggest invasion of this country since 1066, led by the ‘Pocket Beast from the East’ lightweight sensation Yuri Romanov.

Romanov who although boxes out of Russia is licenced under the BBBoC and maintains England is his spiritual home and it should be with the amount of British scalps he has hanging on his mantelpiece the one he dearly wants to add is the British and Commonwealth champion Graham Earl.

Romanov signed autographs and posed for pictures on arrival and held up a suitcase and claimed “This suitcase is empty now but when it leaves it will have the head of Earl and his Lonsdale and Commonwealth belts. If he is a true boxing man and a man of principle when I knock him out on Friday night he will hand me his belts, how can an man who’s been beaten call himself champion.”

“I have a British licence, I have a work permit please Mr Blair give me a British passport so I can be British champion and bring pride to this island and bring pride back to the lightweight division which has had
such greats as Ken Buchanan, Jim Watt, Dave Charnley but today there is no Britain who can stop me from conquering the division.

“Russia has the WBA champion the “Beast from the East” they made a film Rocky 4 when Ivan Drago defeated the American Apollo Creed, Friday the 27th January at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre will not be fiction it
will be fact as much as I love the British people I know a win over will give me what a want a shot at a recognised World title and put them up there with Russia’s latest star Nikolay Valuev the WBA heavyweight
champion of the World.”

Also in the invasion party was Jamie Moore’s opponent Vladimir Borovski and hot prospects Sam Webb and Junior McDonald’s opponents.

The weigh-in for this show will be at the Maloney Fight Factory at 1pm, Thursday 26th. And the eagerly awaited lightweight clash will take place at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham on the 27th January, doors open at 6.30pm for further information call Maloney Promotions 020 8692 6313

  • Do we understand that these people are FIGHTING? 03/10/2026
We watch boxing as if it is just a sport. But do we realize that these people are fighting. Like, literally trying to beat each other to death in the ring? Do we appreciate how different that is? I was sitting back today and watching some old fights and the reality hit me. These people are actually fighting. How amazing and shocking that is at the same time? […]

  • Kugan Should Retire! 16/09/2026
He’s Eddies mate and I know they’ve been doing interviews since before either of them really had a profile…but Eddie still gives Kugan wayyyyy too much latitude in the interviews that Hearn needs to resonate with the public. Kugan constantly cuts across him, with some meaningless aside, or to tries to get a rubbish ‘gotcha’, for no reason. There are better i […]

  • Ain't we all want to see Jai v David? 14/09/2026
Don’t we? Let’s cut all of the bullshit here. This is the only fight worth a $100 PPV buy, it’s Jai Opetai v David Benavidez. Canelo is in the background now. He is not worthy of paying any attention to at this point and time. Plus, since Crawford is retired, he is not worth mentioning either, even if he comes back to fight Boots… There is no other fight on […]
