Heavyweight Fres Oquendo Back In Action on Feb 16

ByKatrina Walters 11/02/2006

The saying goes “what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger” and that saying is oh so true for heavyweight “Fast” Fres Oquendo. Oquendo has seem some rough days in his career as a professional fighter. His one main goal is to become heavyweight champion of the world. He has held the NABF title, but it’s nothing like being recognized on a grand scale in the boxing world as a World Champion, but nevertheless, the big “O” has not let adversity stop him. His last fight came against the then heavyweight champ, John Ruiz back in April of 2004. This was one of the two opportunity’s that Oquendo had to capture a world title. The other came against Chris Bryd in a very controversial lost that saw Oquendo starring down the face of defeat yet another time due to a premature stoppage by the referee. But that would not be the only obstacles that was to face the Puerto Rican heavyweight.

With situations with promoters and managers and gang members in his native Puerto Rico and even defeating that “cancer” Fres Oquendo has overcame more than his share of turmoil. So that leads us to present time, almost two years later and Fres is back in action, ready to handle business in the ever so wishy washy world known as the heavyweight the division.

The stage has been set and the venue has been chosen for Oqueno to make known his present to all that dare call themselves heavyweights. Fres Oquendo is scheduled to take on Daniel Bispo on Feb 16, 2006 at the hottest boxing ballroom in NYC, The Hammerstein Ballroom, at the Manhattan Center. Tickets are still available at $150, $100, $80, $60, and $40. Fres Oquendo’s quest to get back into heavyweight contention has to start somewhere with someone and we will never no if he will be able to avenge his losses against Chris Bryd or John Ruiz or even David Tua, but to think of it will he have too? With the uncertainty of the heavyweights and the fact that not one true champion stands alone, the recognition is up for grabs. The timing is ever so right for Fres and the opportunity’s are few and far between for chances at greatness. Three’s a charm, so if the big “O” can rack up a couple more “W” he can very well find himself back into position to fight for and possibly win a world title this time around. Call for tickets while still available at 212-947-2577, seats are limited.
