Former Boxing Champion Bazan Gets Past Logan

ByCurtis McCormick 12/02/200612/02/2006

Ex-WBC Lightweight Champion Cesar Bazan nearly paid dearly for his slow starting style as the towering Mexican banger pulled a split decision out of the fire against hard luck light welter journeyman Marteze Logan Friday night at San Antonio’s Roseland Ballroom. Logan, who makes a habit of taking last minute bouts as a replacement opponent, blitzed Bazan from the opening bell and put the taller man back on his heels. The former world champion’s quality began to show however, as the busy Logan was kept largely at bay by the power of Bazan. Logan, of Covington, TN, lost a point in the ninth for what was declared an intentional headbutt and drops to 22-21-2 (5) after only three and a half years as a professional. With the victory, Bazan, now residing in Ft. Myers, FL, moves to 45-7-1 (29).
